After a solid month of rain in Shenzhen, the sun finally broke through! The moment I saw the sunlight, I immediately decided to grab my photographer and head out for this Mitsuri Kanroji cosplay Custom design cosplay sunny outdoor shoot. This long-awaited clear weather was simply ideal for outdoor photography; the clarity and penetration of natural sunlight faithfully restored the fabrics' genuine textures and vibrant colors.
I stepped in front of the camera myself this time as Yi'an. The overarching aesthetic embraces a pink-and-green contrasting color scheme. The wig was styled into twin braided plaits, seamlessly blending pale green hair extensions into the braids to echo the overall palette. For hair accessories, abundant dimensional flowers in pink and white tones were interwoven into the braids and across the crown. Carrying considerable weight due to the volume of florals, putting them on required substantial time to tweak placement, ensuring flattering angles before the lens from every perspective. In terms of makeup, the focus was placed on reddish smudging and glitter beneath the eyes, paired with green contact lenses—crafting that expressive gaze is the core of this character's look.
For the attire of this Hanfu photoshoot, the inner layer featured a pale green parallel-collar top with standing lapels, embroidered across the chest with gold thread depicting floral, bird, and butterfly motifs, covered by an outer pink wide-sleeved robe. The robe's fabric carried a soft luster under the sun, highlighted by exquisite white embroidery on the cuffs. The lower half was paired with a green printed pleated skirt whose floral motifs harmonized with the top's embroidery. For props, I prepared an oil-paper umbrella with pink tassels and a begonia-shaped round fan; these accessories greatly enriched framing compositions while helping me position my hands more naturally in front of the lens.
The shooting location was set amidst traditional architecture and a bamboo grove. Sunlight filtered through the foliage, casting dappled shadows onto the stone slate pavement. While natural illumination is gorgeous, it severely tests a photographer's mastery over contrast ratios. To prevent shadows from muddying facial features, we constantly adjusted our positioning and angles, utilizing reflectors for fill light. When opening the pink paper umbrella, sunlight filtered through the paper canopy to cast a soft, warm glow across my face—a delicate lighting nuance practically impossible to replicate in post-processing. While shooting inside the bamboo grove, using bamboo leaves as foreground bokeh added dramatic depth of field, allowing me to pose naturally and relaxed while holding the round fan or folding fan.
What satisfied me most about this shoot was the chromatic harmony. Pink and green pairings can easily become garish if misjudged, but since this was a Custom design cosplay, we subdued the saturation slightly, which, enhanced by natural sunlight, yielded an exceptionally lucid, translucent finish in this Anime-style photography piece. To be candid, spending an entire afternoon outdoors bearing an intricate wig and weighty garments during any outdoor shoot is hard labor; the wide sleeves easily catch on tree branches or building cornices, demanding extreme care when moving. Moreover, outdoor photography inevitably captures passing pedestrians, requiring considerable effort in post-production to paint out background tourists.
From conceptualizing the style to capturing the final frames, preparing this look was quite a journey. Being blessed with a bright, sunny day off to turn all these preparations into real-world photos made the process deeply enjoyable in itself. I look forward to encountering such crystal-clear weather again to explore even more creative interplay between light and shadow.
