3...2...1 Tada~ Guess whether today's magic is a surprise or a scare. This location shoot has finally brought this mysterious magician image to life. Huge thanks to photographer Sen Ran for providing us with excellent backdrops at the Qianjiang Art Center. The vintage European-style interior decoration inside the Qianjiang Art Center is truly perfect for presenting characters with a touch of classical fantasy, especially those thick red brick walls, black-and-white checkerboard floor tiles, and dark leather sofas—any random shot looks like a movie.
This white and blue outfit truly captures the essence of the character. The white shirt features exquisite hidden stitching and ruffles at the cuffs and neckline, paired with a deep blue base adorned with prints of starlit shells and mysterious instruments outlined in gold thread. It looks incredibly photogenic when posed in front of European wooden staircases and vintage long tables. To present the character's unique dynamic agility, I specifically chose purple colored contacts for the makeup this time. The small black five-pointed star sticker under the eye is the absolute soul of the entire look, making it exceptionally eye-catching in close-up shots under the light and shadow.
The fluffy white cat ears and small blue-green ribbons inject a hint of playfulness into the overall mysterious temperament. What makes me particularly satisfied is the pairing of these fishnet black stockings with the glossy platform block-heeled shoes, which both elongates the overall body proportions and adds some personal styling touches while adhering to the character's setting. Sitting casually on the black-and-white checkerboard ground like in the picture, with the composition extending my legs outward, maximizes the texture of the attire and shoes. Combined with the slightly twitching cat ears on my head, that slightly cunning and mysterious atmosphere is instantly maximized.
The shooting process was actually a true test of physical stamina. Because the indoor light was quite dark, to shoot that deep stage feel, the photographer and I communicated for a long time regarding the lighting arrangement. When shooting the close-up in the picture where I poke half my head out from behind a tapestry, we utilized side-backlighting to create mystery. The texture of the red fabric and the light and shadow along the edges made me feel like I was truly performing a modern magic show. As for those shots sitting in front of the wooden table, the red cat-shaped coasters placed on the table were also props I prepared in advance. Combined with the action of biting a card, they beautifully reinforce the character's setting as a magician, making the entire set of photos more coherent and narrative-driven.
Since the costume is a cotton-polyester blend with built-in safety undershorts, it's actually very breathable. However, during long periods of standing and moving back and forth, the large area of the skirt hem still gets a bit heavy. But seeing the details in the final cuts, such as the subtle wrinkles on the cuffs and the finely detailed green cat charm on the bag, makes all the previous effort feel completely worth it. Although this location shoot required switching between multiple different scenes within a single day—from the stairwell to the cafe area and then to the lobby—the feeling under the lens was completely different each time. Dressed in this outfit that fits the character's temperament, walking around in a real-world environment truly offers a wonderful sensation of breaking the fourth wall. This experience of bringing a 2D character into real public spaces always fills me with more passion for my hobby.
