Shooting Castorice from Honkai: Star Rail this time, the primary focus throughout the entire process was on blending a sense of fantasy with the austere, chilly atmosphere of the set. To align with the character's intrinsic demeanor, every detail of the costume had to be meticulously groomed in advance. The main dress features blue-purple gradient satin accented with a black choker and harness straps, layered over a white ruffled underskirt. To fit the elven aesthetic, the pale purple long straight hair had to be combed carefully; the blunt bangs needed to stay neat under intense illumination, and the pointed elf ears required alcohol glue to be secured firmly. Paired with purple colored contacts and pink-toned makeup, this ensured I could maintain the character's subtly detached, aloof gaze before the lens during this Anime-style photography session.
In terms of props, that massive tri-color scythe in purple, white, and black was the visual centerpiece of the entire photoshoot, with the inlaid purple orb in the center drawing immediate attention. However, this prop was extraordinarily heavy; holding poses required solid core control, as lifting it one-handed tightened arm muscles while still demanding that facial expressions stayed composed. The scene dressing also took immense effort: white Gothic pillars, stained-glass windows, coupled with abundant purple-blue blossoms and a reflective mirrored floor created a remarkable sense of space. The white skull prop also played a huge role—I experimented with placing it atop a pillar, cradling it in one hand, or leaning beside it; each different interaction brought a distinct narrative direction to the photographs.
For photography, the team utilized a Sony A7R6 paired with an FE 28-70mm F2 GM lens. Under complex indoor lighting, the advantage of the F2 wide aperture was clearly evident—it provided ample light intake, and while focusing on the face, the background flowers and stained-glass windows melted into soft, creamy bokeh that never stole the spotlight. The high resolution of the A7R6 also ensured ample room for secondary cropping and recomposition in post-processing. To make the most of the floor reflections, I deliberately adjusted the angle of my seated posture so that the lines of the skirt and legs extended into the reflection, while keeping careful watch to avoid light stand reflections from overhead fixtures.
Regarding posture adjustments, the primary focus was on spreading the skirt and highlighting leg contours. For instance, in the seated pose on the pillar, shifting my center of gravity backward left room to extend one leg; this not only allowed the ruffled pleats along the skirt's hem to drape naturally, but also showcased shoe details cleanly. Posing with the scythe also demanded iterative micro-adjustments, ensuring the curvature of the prop aligned harmoniously with body lines. The entire shoot progressed through continuous trial and refinement; ultimately presenting this lavish composition tinged with a dark fairy-tale ambiance was the fruit of our team's collaborative polishing across light, shadow, props, and movement details. It was a wonderful way to express a blend of Sweet girl delicacy and haunting fantasy in this Castorice cosplay.
