[Shimoe Koharu cosplay] Summer Stroll at ChinaJoy — Refreshing Soda and Halo Daily

The lighting inside the ChinaJoy expo hall this summer was crystal clear, so I decided to take this set of Shimoe Koharu outdoor-style photos right at the convention. Due to the extremely dense foot traffic at the venue, for ease of mobility and to prevent props from bumping into people, I ultimately did not wear the waist wings (apologies to fellow fans; in the actual shoot, I indeed had to forego some rigid props due to the crowd). Nonetheless, the upper body makeup, styling, and accessories were presented with full dedication to the lore style.

The focus of this styling was on the head details. The light pink wig with straight bangs was styled into Pink twin tails, accented on both sides with thin light-blue ribbon bows to break the monotony of pure pink, creating rich dimension alongside the red halo on top and the black feathered wing hairpieces on both sides. To match the character's demeanor, I switched to very soft pink-purple contact lenses and applied wide-area pink gradient blending around the eyes, which balanced out the sharper presence of the black wings. Around my neck, I wore a wide teal velvet choker with a thin black cord dangling along the bottom edge, paired with the pink-and-white plaid spaghetti strap camisole to keep the overall look lightweight and refreshing.

To evoke a natural, everyday feeling during the shoot, we avoided complicated posing and instead focused on relaxed interactions with a red beverage can. Sometimes I naturally pressed the can against my cheek, and sometimes I slightly tilted my head back taking a sip. Since this outfit leans toward minimalist daily wear, rigid poses would feel out of place, so I kept the atmosphere as relaxed and breezy as possible. The lighting in the photos nicely captured the rim-light contouring along the hair strands.

As everyone knows, foot traffic at ChinaJoy is immense, and catching clean shots without passersby in the gaps between crowds takes patience. The biggest difference between outdoor conventions and studio cosplay shoots is the sheer number of uncontrollable factors, such as unexpected pedestrians walking by and rapidly shifting lighting angles. Yet I personally love this realistic convention atmosphere; it gives photos a vivid, lived-in feel, especially after background blur softens the surrounding color palette.

In post-processing, I chose a high-key, luminous cool-white tone curve, striving for a bright frame without over-saturation. The cooler color temperature kept the pinks, blues, and reds balanced without clashing. I also refined the hair texture and edge sharpness, hoping to capture the clean, luminous look of the character under the sunlight. Cosplaying Shimoe Koharu from Blue Archive, I feel her personality naturally carries an energetic yet playful spirit, which this summery styling and candid movements echoed perfectly. Channeling this mindset prevented stiff poses while using the small prop to enrich the narrative depth of each frame.

Although the styling was relatively lightweight, significant care went into adjusting accessory fit and overall balance—especially securing the halo and side black wings, which required constant checks while moving through crowds under the summer heat. The final angles and mood achieved the effect I envisioned, successfully conveying the vibrant, breezy joy of enjoying summer at an anime expo.
