[Shimoe Koharu cosplay] Birthday illustration in a Custom kimono design from Blue Archive

Regarding our birthday promise, in the end, I wore this Custom kimono design to go have Japanese cuisine together with "Sensei." The photos everyone sees were actually shot late last night; I was so exhausted I could barely keep my eyes open and fell asleep halfway through editing, so I'm sharing these today as a belated Birthday illustration tribute for our precious Shimoe Koharu. When doing cosplay, I always strive to faithfully recreate the character's innate traits while leaving a little creative freedom for myself.

For the outfit, I selected a kimono featuring a white base printed with pink sakura blossoms and bunny patterns. If you look closely, there's a red square seal stamped on the left chest. Although as a Custom kimono design it doesn't strictly adhere to the formal uniform in the game files of Blue Archive, I feel this relaxed Japanese-style aesthetic matches the scenario of "going out for a meal with Sensei" perfectly. To accompany this elegant, understated kimono, instead of pure black or heavy dark hair, I custom-styled this soft light pink long wig. In terms of texture, trimming the bangs was a major challenge: to capture that fluffy, airy volume of an anime character, I used plenty of setting spray and hair wax to lock the curve in place, ensuring that top-down selfies wouldn't let the bangs weigh down over my colored contacts and look droopy.

Let's talk about the eye makeup and accessories. I wore light purple colored contact lenses; for this specific look, I slightly intensified the blending of blush and eyeshadow around the outer corners of the eyes to make the gaze appear softer and more innocent. For accessories, my favorite touch is the pair of black feather hair ornaments atop my head accented with dark red floral details. This directly neutralized any monotony from the predominantly white kimono, visually emphasizing the character's gap-moe contrast and clumsy, adorable charm. Since the photos were mostly taken via front-facing phone selfies rather than professional Cosplay photography setups, finding ideal angles required experimentation: I lowered the lens slightly, trying eye-level centered shots and 45-degree upward angles to showcase the kimono's distinctive draping sleeves and the curve of the neck.

Many might say this look is a bit 'OOC' (out of character), and indeed, Shimoe Koharu's canon attire in Blue Archive is her iconic Justice Realization Committee uniform. However, I believe cosplay has never been an immutable, rigid copy-paste. As on this special occasion, donning a Custom kimono design to inject a touch of slice-of-life immersion is a wonderful way to feel closer to the character. For photo editing, I avoided complicated digital effects, focusing mainly on calibrating color temperature and brightening facial lighting while preserving fabric textures, ensuring skin smoothing didn't blur the delicate sakura prints on the kimono. Although I was exhausted yesterday, wearing this outfit and capturing satisfying photos made all the fatigue vanish. I hope this portrayal infused with everyday warmth allows everyone to appreciate another endearing side of Shimoe Koharu cosplay in this Birthday illustration celebration!
