The summer swimsuit look of Misono Mika from Blue Archive blends ethereal and refreshing elements in its design, making it perfectly suited for lighting setups by the seaside at night. To restore the character's star and moon headpieces and soft pink hair color, a lot of effort went into fixing the wig and creating a sense of layering. Paired with color-accurate contact lenses and a clean base makeup, I hoped the presented angles would beautifully fit Mika's gentle yet playful personality traits.
The weather on the day of the shoot was indeed exactly as previously mentioned, waiting from daytime through sunset all the way into the night. The beach at night was quite windy, and this lightweight white fabric outfit was easily blown around by the sea breeze. During this beach photoshoot, I not only had to manage the range of my movements but also needed to maintain the weightless feel and elegant drape of the sheer half-sleeves at all times. Fortunately, the on-site lighting was excellent, and paired with a well-balanced flash ratio, it brought out the highlight textures and color saturation in the frames to the maximum. The blue bowtie and this cute inflatable swim ring prop paired beautifully on-site, creating a sharp color contrast against the darker background, keeping the visual center of gravity firmly focused on the character.
In fact, doing cosplay is a true test of a look's overall completion and expressiveness. In front of the camera, I tried my best to project myself into the character's aura, such as maintaining a relaxed expression and casual physical interaction. Although this styling looks refreshing, the balance of the headpieces and the angle of the wings when turning around required repeated tuning. Ultimately, the finished photos achieved the expected results. The nighttime beach environment, combined with the relatively clean background light, gives the entire frame a rich sense of narrative, which is exactly the refreshing summer vibe of the 2D world I hoped to convey in this set of works.
