Shooting Shimoe Koharu from Blue Archive this time involved extensive dedication from initial preparation to the finished captures. Koharu's wardrobe itself is packed with fine nuances; to ensure faithful recreation, I tested the wig styling well in advance. The pink wig required meticulous trimming to achieve that buoyant yet slightly casual shoulder-length texture, with bangs contoured cleanly to my face. The red circular halo prop at the crown was a major technical hurdle; to maintain its horizontal levitation above my head during shooting, we fitted an invisible structural support inside, making it look as though it were effortlessly suspended midair on camera. The black beret spliced with small black winged feather accents on both sides was an intriguing element, lending an adorable yet stubborn edge to the overall silhouette.
Looking at the layered styling of the attire: the black long-sleeved uniform jacket was layered over a sailor-style collar with a pink ribbon bowtie, complemented by pink stripe piping along the cuffs and a white shield emblem on the left arm. The skirt was a deep crimson pleated cut, tailored to a length that perfectly matched the white over-the-knee Stockings. The sock cuffs featured delicate pink lace trims, paired with glossy black platform leather shoes—establishing a crisp, high-contrast palette of black, white, pink, and red against the pure white background.
As for props, the white sign marked with a red circle and red slash—the iconic prohibition sign—truly became the soul of the entire series. During shooting, I explored countless ways to interact with it. In the final frames, I held it hugged against my chest with both hands clasping the pole, balanced on one leg raising the sign with one hand while extending the other palm outward in a blocking gesture, and sat on the floor with the sign propped diagonally beside me. Every stance required coordinating the prop with torso orientation and center-of-gravity balance.
The set was an all-white seamless studio utilizing a white cylindrical pedestal as a posing riser. This stark white cyclorama puts garment textures and lighting to the ultimate test, as there is no environmental background to obscure imperfections. Studio lighting was balanced evenly, rendering the sheer weave of the white Stockings and the glossy sheen of the leather shoes with exquisite clarity. Because the ensemble's core tones leaned dark, the white backdrop chiseled out sharp outer contour lines. To convey Koharu's slightly tsundere, guarded personality, I incorporated subtle facial nuances—such as tilting my head or glancing slightly downward at the lens, paired with gently down-turned eye contours and soft blush to channel her distinct demeanor.
Sitting on the floor or kneeling atop the cylindrical pedestal in this outfit required vigilant care over skirt drapes and stocking cuffs to avoid unflattering bunching or accidental exposure. Every time I adjusted my seated pose, significant effort was spent resetting the fabric and the black feather wing props along my back, as feathers crush easily, while continually monitoring the halo to ensure dynamic movements didn't knock it off balance.
Special thanks to photographer Qiye, whose direction made our collaboration seamless. He actively guided my postures—suggesting curled seated stances to flatter leg contours or leaning slightly forward to accentuate bodily curves. He also excelled at seizing foot and footwear nuances, such as the sharp visual contrast between the black leather shoes and white Stockings while seated. The shoot was lengthy, spanning dozens of varied poses across standing, sitting, and handling the sign. Bringing this series to life was pure joy from initial fitting to final framing. Reviewing the finished pictures, I feel thoroughly satisfied with how faithfully Shimoe Koharu was captured—the luminous, translucent lighting granted the final frames incredible textural depth.
