Today I'm sharing this Magical Girl Chino cosplay photo set. This styling preserves Chino's iconic light-blue long hair while infusing a magical girl design into the outfit from Is the Order a Rabbit?. The white cat-eared beret on my head is definitely the crowning touch, embroidered with a cute cat face that harmonizes seamlessly with the blue-and-white color palette.
The costume is a layered blue-and-white dress. The upper bodice is white with light-blue suspender accents and a black central zipper detail. The sleeves are puff sleeves trimmed with lace frills and accented with blue bows. A bright blue ribbon tied at the center waist drapes down naturally, creating lovely dynamic movement while walking. The lower half features a light-blue flared skirt layered over multi-tiered white ruffles, giving great dimension. To ensure maximum fluffiness, I wore a petticoat underneath so the skirt silhouette holds a perfect shape even when seated or raising a leg.
For accessories, I wore white over-the-knee socks (White tights cosplay) with black strappy leather shoes, complemented by short white lace gloves. The props included a white cat-faced plush cushion and a magical wand. Depending on the scenes and props, I tried several poses—such as hopping on one leg while holding the cushion with one hand, or holding the cushion close to my cheeks with both hands. I particularly love the close-up shot holding the cushion by my face, as it highlights the intricate details of the cat face cushion while conveying expressive emotion in my eyes.
During shooting, I paid special attention to lighting. We used soft diffused light in the studio to prevent the blue-and-white garments from overexposing, preserving a clean and crisp tonal palette. The backdrop was a solid light gray-blue, ensuring it wouldn't overpower the subject and keeping visual focus squarely on the character and costume. To ensure the wig looked silky and neat, I treated it with wig care spray before shooting to eliminate frizz and flyaways.
As for makeup, catering to the anime aesthetic, the eye makeup aimed to enlarge the eyes, paired with bright blue colored contacts to match the hair color. Blush was applied beneath the eyes for an adorable anime touch. The makeup remained clean and translucent rather than overly heavy. The photographer offered helpful pose guidance throughout, like using props to balance composition and maximizing the skirt's graceful flare.
This costume has many fine details, such as the skirt pleats and waist ribbons, which needed careful smoothing before each take to look polished. Posing in this ensemble tested physical stamina, especially tiptoeing and lifting a leg, which required engaging core balance. Though tiring, seeing the finished shots made it all worthwhile. These photos document every detail of preparation—from styling wigs to designing poses—striving to faithfully bring this beloved character to life.
