This shoot centered on a mid-autumn theme, featuring Hoshino (Autumn), and once the outfit arrived, it was even lighter and more ethereal than I had imagined. The outer layer is sheer gauze with a soft blue gradient, worn over pink and white underlayers; tying the pink sash around the waist instantly softened my entire disposition into gentle grace. In particular, the wide sleeves possessed an elegant, fluid drape, looking photogenic with virtually any subtle movement during the session. To enhance the fabric's airy flow on camera, I deliberately re-ironed every seam beforehand to ensure no unwanted wrinkles disrupted the visual cleanliness. The color palette was exquisitely considered—intertwining pale blue with soft pink retained the dignified grace of traditional aesthetic while keeping the vibrant liveliness of anime styling, catching a delicate shimmer under the studio lights with impeccable detail.
The wig chosen was a highly saturated pink, styled into twin-tails. The halo-like ring ornament atop the head was actually quite heavy, requiring substantial interior padding and numerous bobby pins anchored into my natural hair; wearing it for hours definitely left my neck slightly sore. For makeup, I emphasized under-eye blush and blue colored contacts; to complement the light-toned attire, the base makeup was kept relatively fair and porcelain. Before stepping in front of the lens, I double-checked the adhesion of my false lashes to ensure my eyes looked expressive from every angle. To echo the character's temperament, I dusted fine glitter over the eye makeup, which caught the light to illuminate a spirited sparkle—overall understated, prioritizing natural, translucent radiance.
The studio set was arranged with profound poetic ambiance: an oversized artificial moon, cherry blossom trees, and decorative folding screens converged to elevate the mood to the peak. The round fan in my hand featured an illustration I painted myself, paired with a wooden brush stem to keep hand gestures natural and fluid. Beside me sat an antique guqin zither and lotus props as foreground accents, all curated to enrich the frame's depth of field. Facing the bright lights and glowing moon backdrop, the photographer constantly adjusted camera angles, leveraging the perspective through sheer drapery to add spatial depth. Under the wind machine, the white sheer tulle billowed with wonderful kinetic motion; capturing that fluid grace right as the shutter clicked demanded impeccable timing in this Anime-style photography.
Beyond gentle, leaning static poses, I also tried outstretched postures seated on the floor. Because the skirt features a side-slit design, pairing it with White over-the-knee socks visually elongated leg contours while adding layered depth to the Traditional style cosplay. During shooting, I kept my body relaxed to avoid stiff, forced tension, as traditional garments inherently carry a light, effortless ease. To best display the drape of the skirt and the extension of the leg lines, I paid special attention to pointing my insteps and keeping my spine erect when seated. My grip on the fan and calligraphy brush went through multiple refinements, striving for delicate wrist curves and natural eye contact with the camera.
For lighting, the photographer relied heavily on soft diffused light, as pastel attire easily blows out under harsh illumination, demanding meticulous exposure compensation. On set, continuous smoothing of fabric folds was needed to bring out the garment's rich tactile texture—a level of detail management that truly tested our patience. The entire process was quite physically demanding, especially executing repeated squats and rises in a long skirt while maintaining relaxed facial expressions. Yet seeing the final frames made all that effort worthwhile. This set seamlessly harmonized mid-autumn gentleness with the character's signature sweetness, making for a profoundly rewarding creative collaboration.
