[Tendou Arisu Cosplay] Blue Archive: Sunset Memories at the End of the Convention

When used correctly, the lighting at the end of a convention serves as a natural filter. As the Bao Convention wrapped up, instead of rushing to leave, we stayed outside a bit longer. We happened to catch the exact moment the sun began to sink behind the buildings. This kind of backlighting is incredibly textured—even with lens flare, it adds a warm, dreamy layer of soft light to the photos. For outdoor portrait photography, this lighting is incredibly precious, beautifully highlighting the character's silhouette and elevating the quality of the shots.

The photographer Sumidagawa Senji did an amazing job of catching the wind's direction to blow my grey-blue long hair, turning the hair strands into an organic prop within the frame. A huge thank you to Wuzhong de Dahai for providing the telephoto lens; the combination of the long focal length and the backlighting captured the fine details of the hair and the rim light beautifully. Out on the plaza, many fellow fans who hadn't left yet were packing up their gear and chatting, fully immersed in that relaxed, joyful post-con vibe, transforming the outdoor plaza into a temporary 'memorial hall' for the evening.

Going back to the styling preparation: the loose outer coat features a black-and-white color-blocked design, worn over a basic pure white shirt. The bright blue tie serves as the visual anchor of the look, instantly popping the colors of the upper body. For the lower half, I paired it with a black pleated skirt featuring matching blue trim. This black, white, and blue color palette looks incredibly pleasing under the warm tones of the sunset. I chose a misty grey-blue shade for the hair, which created a cool, refreshing contrast against the white shirt. The green geometric halo on my head, which is normally very bright, looked slightly muted against the strong backlighting, but it still served as a perfect focal point nested in my hair.

The prop we used for this shoot was a massive black-and-white weapon case. The case is quite large and actually has a lot of weight to it. The pose where I lifted one leg while making a finger gesture was honestly quite hard to balance. Because the case is heavy, I had to carefully coordinate my body position and lean angle to maintain a light, playful posture without looking clumsy. The low-angle shot was an even bigger test of core strength, as I had to hold the heavy prop steady while maintaining physical tension. But for the sake of an amazing shot, my muscles quickly adapted after a few tries.

Pairing thick-soled black sneakers with black crew socks offered fantastic support for walking and standing. In the first collage, the wind blew my hair into a beautiful mess, even obscuring one of my eyes, while the backlit hair strands formed a crystalline glow on camera. This kind of natural 'undone' beauty is far more captivating than rigid posing. The middle shot captures a candid, lively 'caught on set' moment, while the final low-angle photo focuses on showing off the cool factor of the weapon prop and overall outfit.

Compared to shooting in a studio, natural outdoor light truly brings out the raw texture of this outfit. When the evening breeze lifted the folds of the pleated skirt and the front of the loose coat, the character became so much more three-dimensional and alive in the dusk. During this post-convention hour, whether striking a lively pose or simply resting quietly against the case, the emotions captured felt completely authentic and fluid. This relaxed, natural state created a wonderful contrast with the crowded, high-energy atmosphere of the convention during the day.

Treating the end of a convention as a new beginning for a shoot—without rushing, and with absolute trust and coordination within the photography team—is the only way to capture these detailed, frozen moments. The lighting angles, the direction of the wind, and the state of the props can all shift in a matter of seconds. To successfully capture these frames was incredibly satisfying. I hope to have more opportunities in the future to record more Tendou Arisu cosplay moments outside other conventions in this relaxed, quiet rhythm.
