The heat was intense and the convention halls were packed shoulder-to-shoulder, but being surrounded by so many passionate fans made every bit of exhaustion well worth it. For this Bilibili World convention, I brought several outfits covering Madoka, 2233-niang, and Rikka. Some friends asked earlier whether rapid character swaps would be exhausting, but as long as you map out changing booth routes ahead of time, it is entirely manageable.
First thing in the morning, I headed straight to the studio set featured in Photo 4. The red-haired trench coat coordinate puts personal presence to the test. The glossy black tights were chosen specifically before departing, catching strobe lights with exceptional texture. Seated before an antique television set and vanity table, I channeled the character's relaxed, effortless composure. Photographer Miaodan incorporated side-rim lighting into the composition, tracing graceful, fluid contours along the legs, where the structured stiffness of the leather coat formed a striking textural dialogue with the sheer delicacy of the Black stockings.
Immediately after wrapping the first set, I changed into Madoka's iconic pink-and-white dress from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Because this gown features extensive tiering and bows, changing required extreme care, and the high ponytail wig needed continuous spritzes of hairspray to maintain buoyant lift. To complement the sweet aura of the dress, I intensified the blush and eye shadow blending, aiming to capture genuine 2D sweetness. The ambient hall lighting leaned cool, so we utilized natural sunlight outside the pavilion for close-ups, crisply capturing the metallic gleam of the crimson ruby choker.
Next came Rikka cosplay: a crisp white polo shirt paired with navy gym shorts, completed with her signature eyepatch and wrapped bandages. While seemingly casual, this look demands extreme precision. The eyepatch must sit at the exact height to obscure the eye while allowing comfortable pose execution. Wearing over-the-knee Black stockings paired with red-and-white casual sneakers, candid strides across the hall's grey tiles yielded several wonderfully chuunibyou still frames. Throughout the session, I continuously adjusted my posture to balance youthful energy with sharp visual stability.
Convention photography severely tests adaptability. Heavy foot traffic and cluttered backgrounds require strategic aperture and focal length choices to blow out passerby distractions. For indoor hall lighting, I relied on booth bounce boards or friends assisting with handheld lights to sculpt dimensional facial contours with softer shadow falloff.
For 2233-niang cosplay, the eye-catching brilliance of the holographic laser fabrics made the coordinate pop spectacularly. Posing alongside another friend required tight mutual rapport, using staggered depths to enrich compositional layers.
Slipping into these outfits transcends mere costuming; it is an effort to embody radically different personas through body language. Every shutter release manifests our genuine love for these characters. Peeling off the dense wigs and unlacing snug footwear at wrap time left me thoroughly exhausted, but reviewing the vivid, tangible deliverables on the camera screen made every drop of sweat and hustle deeply meaningful.
