The BW2026 convention photos are finally retouched and ready! This time, I teamed up with Gaoge Zaogao daze to do a duo Azur Lane cosplay, anchored in a high-contrast black-versus-white concept.
First, about my styling (left: purple hair). The wig was a vivid bright purple; trimming and shaping it to achieve volume without looking messy took nearly two hours. The horns on my head were made of lightweight resin and secured directly to the wig; because they carried noticeable weight, I had to reinforce them with multiple bobby pins. I went with grass-green colored contacts, paired with reddish-brown lower lash line eyeshadow to give my gaze a fiercer, more predatory edge. The leather ensemble featured sheer mesh inner paneling to add textural depth to the black monochrome. The black garter stockings paired with thigh-high boots felt extremely snug and tight while standing. The white plush shawl looked gorgeous, but it shed fuzz everywhere, requiring frequent touch-ups with a lint roller backstage.
Gaoge Zaogao daze's styling (right: white hair) was equally labor-intensive. Those white dragon horns were custom-crafted by a prop master with a pearlized lacquer finish, reflecting subtle, refined gleams under the convention booth lighting. The lace on the long gown was remarkably delicate, demanding extreme care backstage to avoid snags. Gold jewelry layered with a ruby pendant necklace injected an opulent, weighty presence. Her makeup leaned radiant and clear, which ironically tested the base makeup even more—with bright white attire and tresses catching reflections, any minor facial blemish would easily be magnified. Moving through the convention hall in full kit was tough; between her sweeping skirt and my tall boots, every step required vigilance against stepping on the train or slipping.
During the shoot, the ambient hall lighting was quite chaotic: cool spotlights glinted sharply across the leather, while red spill light lent a soft pinkish tone to the white gown. While we posed at the booth, the photographer continually guided our angles—I turned slightly sideways to accentuate the tailored waistline of the leather, while Gaoge Zaogao daze stood tall, using hand gestures to enhance linear grace. During breaks, we huddled around the phone checking playback, playfully teasing each other about stray wig hairs or melting makeup, and helping one another adjust trailing capes and belt buckles.
From makeup trials to pre-shoot logistics, this set demanded a lot of meticulous attention. Leather sculpts body curves beautifully, yet in the convention's sweltering heat, it breathes poorly, quickly trapping sweat. Even grabbing lunch meant eating with extreme caution to keep the fabrics pristine. To maintain sleekness in the wigs, we also carried anti-static spray. Seeing the finished light, shadow, and tactile realism in these photos made every bit of hassle—the fittings, stitching loose buttons, and applying false eyelashes—completely worth it. It was exhausting, but bringing the character dynamics to life alongside an incredible partner is deeply fulfilling in itself.
