For this trip to Shanghai Disneyland, I specifically selected this classic black-and-white sailor uniform. Early on during styling, I hesitated for quite a while: theme park environments are typically burst with vivid colors, so wearing something overly flamboyant easily gets swallowed by the background and ends up looking cluttered. Thus, I ultimately settled on this solid black sailor suit trimmed with white piping—understated, clean, and timeless. To break up the heaviness of black, I accessorized with an eye-catching red ribbon with white polka dots, mirrored by a matching sequined ear headband on top; this head-to-toe coordination kept the visual focal point sharply anchored. On my legs were opaque Black stockings. Walking miles across the park all day, Black stockings not only flatter and slim the legs, but also offer far greater peace of mind and warmth compared to bare skin.
We started shooting around 3:00 to 4:00 PM that afternoon. The daylight was at its prime: slightly glaring, yet casting gorgeous rim light along my hair through soft side-backlighting. For compositions like photo 4, I leaned against the stairway handrail, tilting my body slightly while lifting one leg subtly; this not only elongated the visual lines of the legs, but also introduced a playful touch. For seated poses on steps, I rested my elbows on my knees and cupped my chin with both hands—not only slimming the face, but projecting a demure, adorable charm. During shooting, I made sure to coordinate with the photographer to watch the lighting, avoiding awkward specular glare across the face, while keeping true skin textures intact in post-processing.
Regarding makeup, I opted for a Japanese-inspired sweet aesthetic. The foundation was kept light and translucent, placing the emphasis on blush and eye styling. Eyeliner was drawn slightly downward to enhance an innocent gaze, paired with a generous sweep of blush to boost vibrant, lively energy. The false eyelashes were defined strand-by-strand without being overly dramatic, making the eyes appear remarkably big on camera. As for hair, to harmonize with the sailor suit, I kept blunt bangs and tied my hair into low pigtails secured with black ribbons; this not only shaved years off visually, but also kept my hair from sticking messily to my face after running around the park all day.
Snapping photos inside the park truly tests snapshot timing. With crowds of guests everywhere, finding an empty, unobstructed scene is nearly impossible. I sought out tucked-away corners infused with vintage charm—such as shop window fronts or stairwells offering vanishing perspective. I particularly adore the shop window shot: the gilded English lettering on the glass and the plush cartoon toys inside formed a wonderful visual dialogue with my outfit. Overall, while this styling wasn't hardcore cosplay in the traditional sense, wearing themed uniform aesthetics in the park allowed me to blend organically into the atmosphere, yielding photos that felt vastly more natural, candid, and brimming with life.
