This shoot was chosen to take place in the Chinese violet cress flower sea. The overall character design of Seed paired with this sea of purple flowers creates a truly impactful visual experience. The costume design of Zenless Zone Zero always carries a strong sense of technology; making this set of Seed's jacket and leggings took a lot of effort, especially the choice of material, which needed to ensure a sci-fi texture under outdoor light while making sure it wouldn't look stiff due to excessively hard fabric. The transparent material splicing on the upper body, along with the metal collar and arm rings, are the highlights of the entire outfit; when wearing them, the tightness needs to be adjusted properly, especially the flower-decorated collar, to ensure it doesn't shift when tilting the head or turning, while still conforming to the neck line. The transparent tulle material in the back wrinkles easily, so before sitting or lying down each time, I had to take a little time to smooth it out.
The temperature on the day of the shoot wasn't too high, but wearing a tight-fitting bodysuit for outdoor activities still felt a bit stuffy. Fortunately, the lighting in this grove was fantastic; sunlight filtered through the leaves, hitting the white fabric and grey mechanical structures, giving it a very prominent texture. I chose to complete most of the actions on a park bench. The first set of actions involved sitting cross-legged on the bench with hands stretched upward and clasped together. This posture effectively showcases the halter design of the upper body and the lines of the leggings. Although I wasn't wearing shoes, the sensation of stepping barefoot on the wooden chair actually felt closer to the natural yet slightly aloof sci-fi vibe in the character's setting. The close-up shot holding the Chinese violet cress was intended to use a soft element to neutralize the cold, rigid lines brought by the costume.
The second group of poses involved lying sideways on the bench with legs kicked back. This posture places high demands on core abdominal strength, as it requires maintaining a naturally relaxed upper body while showcasing leg lines and simultaneously keeping the mechanical details on the gloves in mind. The long white gloves feature a special strap design at the wrists; to clearly present these details in the photos, I intentionally maintained a certain tension when relaxing my hands to avoid wrinkles on the gloves. To ensure the liveliness of the frame, the photographer had me try different line-of-sight directions, and ultimately the photo looking straight into the lens turned out the best. The long white gloves and the ring-shaped straps on the arms are maxed out in detail under close-up, faithfully restoring the grey circles on the gloves and the joint structures. The biggest challenge of shooting light-colored clothing outdoors is avoiding dirt and grass debris, so I was extremely careful during rest breaks.
Regarding makeup, blue contact lenses and light blue wig are the soul of the entire styling. The eyebrow color was adjusted to be relatively light to highlight the clarity of the eye makeup. Shooting in the flower sea makes the role of reflectors extremely important, as the light in the grove is mottled, requiring fill light to make facial contours clear while preserving background depth of field. To match Seed's slightly calm expression, I tried my best to control my facial muscles in front of the lens, reducing overly exaggerated smiles and relying more on the transmission of the gaze.
The cooperation in composition and color with the photographer this time was very tacit; the white clothing and purple flower sea formed a wonderful color matching. The overall photo results were very surprising, and whether it's full-body pose displays or half-body emotional expressions, it fully matches my initial visual expectations for this character. Although the process was tiring, the moment I saw the final photos, I felt all the preparation was worth it.
