I had actually been conceiving this swimsuit ensemble ever since summer first arrived. For Kyoyama Kazusa from Blue Archive, this character outfit design is naturally tailor-made for sunny summer vibes. To achieve satisfying results by the water, extensive effort was poured into pre-production. Starting with the wardrobe, the true highlight of this styling lies in the juxtaposition of textures. For the top, I chose a light blue denim bandeau featuring raw frayed edges, accented down the center with white lace-up drawstrings. Over it, I layered a semi-sheer light blue long-sleeved cover-up; wearing it off-the-shoulder not only softly conceals upper-arm contours, but also introduces a hazy, layered depth under direct sunlight. The bottoms were paired with dark blue distressed raw-hem denim micro-shorts accented by white criss-cross side lacing, echoing the top's design seamlessly.

The hairstyle and makeup were carefully crafted to faithfully capture the character's signature look. Short black hair with blunt bangs featured bright pink peekaboo highlights along the inner layers and tips, creating a natural color gradient under the sun. Red contacts with subtle translucency were paired with soft reddish-toned eye makeup. The black cat ears and pink halo prop atop my head served as the core visual anchors of the entire series. The halo was anchored to the crown using clear fishing line, with its orientation fine-tuned in post-processing. A blue star hair clip on the side, a black choker, and a black leather thigh garter added touches of rebellious spunk, ensuring the overall look never felt monotonous.

The sunlight was glorious on the day of the shoot, with the azure pool water and lush background foliage offering a natural color contrast. To make the most of such luminous lighting, our pose choreography favored brisk, interactive movements. The first sequence had me standing by the edge of the pool reaching a hand toward the lens—a gesture that flatters upper-body curves and the waistline effortlessly. Later, sitting poolside and on the steps, I tried crossing my legs or bending a single knee, using body twists to accentuate leg lines while framing geometric angles between the upper torso and limbs. Shots glancing back with a swim ring or crouching poolside flashing a peace sign were aimed at capturing relaxed, candid moments. The water's surface reflections caressing my face lent skin tones a far more luminous, crystal-clear finish than usual.

The shooting process was certainly far from effortless: harsh overhead glare made keeping eyes comfortably open difficult while striving to keep expressions relaxed and limbs elongated. Working with budget constraints, the setting and backdrop were arranged entirely on our own without a dedicated studio, yet this natural outdoor setting complemented the summer theme even better. With every change of pose, the garment drawstrings and thigh garter had to be readjusted to avoid wardrobe slips or pinching marks. While the outfit feels lightweight, denim carries noticeable heft near water, requiring prompt composure checks once wet.

I believe the essence of summer swimsuit styling doesn't hinge on how much skin is revealed, but on overall refreshing vitality and breeziness. The palette was kept clean and intentional—anchored in blue, white, and black with a delicate splash of pink accents. Fine makeup and prop nuances must also stand up to close scrutiny to give the final images authentic narrative depth. I hope this photo set brings everyone a breath of refreshing summer chill.
