My showcase of Hsin from Wuthering Waves (Hsin cosplay) at the China International Comics Festival (CICF) anime and gaming expo has finally wrapped up smoothly. I chose this outfit because of its striking design aesthetic—the yellow-and-white color palette paired with black-and-gray color-blocked sleeves creates distinct visual layering. To faithfully recreate the character, I spent significant time securing the black-and-white gradient plush beast ears on my head and the massive white tail behind me, reinforcing them internally with bobby pins and invisible hairnets to prevent them from slipping while walking through the convention hall.
For makeup, focus was placed heavily on the eyes: pink eyeshadow and individually applied lower falsies sculpted the character's signature gaze. The body markings on my forehead and chest were hand-painted with body paint pigments; to prevent sweat from smudging them, plenty of setting spray was applied. For the wig, I selected waist-length straight white hair, which easily tangled amidst the dense crowds at the convention floor and required constant brushing.
The costume is packed with fine details. The yellow satin bodice, adorned with black-and-gray bows and golden metal hardware, radiates high quality. The detached sleeve pieces on my arms are extraordinarily voluminous; while flowing and gorgeous, they easily blocked sightlines during shooting. On my legs, I wore White stockings outlined with golden lines. To complement this styling, I opted for transparent platform high heels with star-decorated straps. While these heels visually elongated leg lines, the ultra-high heel and clear material placed immense strain on the instep, leaving me with no choice but to find steps to sit on throughout the shoot.
We framed our shots in front of a colossal white sculpture. Because the skirt hem features a high slit, and the White stockings combined with transparent high heels were crucial visual centerpieces of this look, the photographer specifically scouted numerous angles that accentuated leg contours. Seated on the steps, I had to support my body with both hands or cross my legs while keeping my insteps constantly arched and pointed to ensure smooth, fluid leg lines on camera. Holding these poses for extended periods made my lower back and waist rather sore.
The on-site lighting was quite complex, and the white sculpture backdrop caused harsh reflective glare, requiring extra time during post-production retouching to balance highlights and contrast. The pattern painted near my collarbones faded slightly from perspiration, but thankfully it was hardly noticeable in the finalized photos. Successfully bringing this Hsin look to an offline expo and capturing these images felt deeply fulfilling.
