[Kochiya Sanae Cosplay] Touhou Project: The Shrine Maiden by the Stream

For this Touhou Project Kochiya Sanae Cosplay photoshoot, the biggest hurdle was preventing the props from getting wet near the water. The shide paper streamers and long fabric ribbons were hand-modified; touching water or damp riverside rocks even slightly would cause them to sag and lose shape. Crouching by the water required clever positioning—ensuring the stream behind me caught glistening reflections while remaining vigilant to shield hand-held props from moisture.

Regarding location selection for this Stream outdoor photoshoot, we specifically sought a shallow forest stream to resonate with the character's divine nature theme. The natural light glistening across the water's surface was invaluable, appearing far more authentic than artificial post-production lighting effects. This blue-and-white outfit has considerable substance; combined with detached wide sleeves and knotted chest cords, it presented some physical resistance outdoors. Navigating moss-covered rocks demanded extreme care to prevent the skirt train from soaking in water or snagging on sharp stone edges.

The shooting energy today was great as I adjusted between crouching and standing poses with the photographer. Whether crouching on rocks manipulating the shide or standing with arms raised, I aimed to capture the character's earnest, energetic, and sacred essence as a shrine maiden in this Shrine maiden cosplay. The photographer's backlit framing was spot on, imparting a soft natural halo along the green wig's silhouette so it didn't look overly dense. The wind was the hardest element to control during this Outdoor photography session—while it lifted ribbons dynamically, it also ruffled the bangs, forcing us to seize key moments quickly between gusts.

Post-processing focused primarily on brightening water reflections and evening out skin tones. Loving that naturally lit, translucent ambiance, I avoided excessive skin smoothing to preserve authentic texture. Outdoor shoots truly test physical endurance—especially holding poses atop jagged rocks in this outfit, putting immense strain on knees and calves—yet seeing the final results made it thoroughly rewarding. In the crouching shots particularly, the natural folds of the skirt and lace cuffs beneath rim backlighting revealed rich layers, clearly showcasing garment construction without visual clutter.

Overall, the interplay of lighting, composition, and prop coordination achieved our desired vision. Special thanks to the photographer for their dedication, continually shifting angles and camera positions to catch water reflections, capturing numerous crisp, natural moments.
