This magician look for Marisa Kirisame underwent extensive fine-tuning in the details. The overall style leans toward a blend of ornate elegance and vintage flair; the cascading tiers of lace ruffles on the wide brim create a striking monochrome contrast with the black feather ornaments. With such heavily crafted hats, collapsing is always the biggest risk, so I reinforced the inside with an invisible wire framework to ensure the brim consistently maintained its crisp, rounded curve during shooting. The dress features a black-and-white color block: the upper body features a black waist-cinching corset vest with gold buttons, while the skirt hem layers black sequined fabric beneath dark lace, casting subtle glints during motion that look magnificent under direct sunlight. With so many tiers on the skirt, the waist was cut exceptionally snug to prevent bulkiness, which meant maintaining a tight core throughout the shoot.
For the lower half, I paired it with white over-the-knee socks and platform shoes, a quintessential combination frequently seen across Touhou Project characters. To flatter the leg contours, the White stockings were chosen with just the right elasticity, ensuring they didn't pinch or squeeze awkwardly while striking poses. Wearing White stockings truly puts leg lines under the microscope—any slight imperfection gets magnified—so I made sure to do some leg stretching beforehand. The chunky platform shoes not only provided a height boost, but also accentuated leg proportions beautifully, creating a crisp contrast between the glossy black patent leather and the White stockings.
As for props, the broom was undeniably the trickiest piece of the entire shoot. I wrapped translucent black ribbon around a standard black broomstick and hung a vintage black lantern in the center. The base was embellished with black feathers and gradient tassels to enrich dimensional layering. To make the lantern look as though it were actually glowing, we scheduled the shoot during peak sunny afternoon hours, letting natural sunlight filter through the glass casing to evoke a gentle, luminous glint. The lantern is quite hefty, requiring plenty of tape and wire to anchor firmly onto the broom handle.
With so much delicate lace across the costume, dressing and changing required immense care to avoid snags. The wig was a vibrant bright blonde with long curls; knowing the oversized hat would flatten the crown, I added deliberate volume and wave to the sides so the hairstyle retained its airy bounce even indoors or in shaded areas. For makeup, I subtly deepened the eyeshadow layering to mirror Marisa's spirited, somewhat roguish yet heroic charm.
The location was a balcony featuring stone arches and vintage sconces. The afternoon sunlight streamed in diagonally from the side, casting gorgeous light and shadow play across the masonry. Fitting the magician theme, I chose high-tension dynamic poses—such as lifting one hand to hold the hat brim while stretching the other outward as if weaving an incantation. Standing before the arches with expansive greenery and distant mountains in the backdrop created harmonious color harmony. To eliminate background distractions, the camera tilted slightly upward, neatly cutting out crowds below while framing the clean curves of the stone arches. The greatest joy of cosplaying is bringing a character to life on such a gorgeous day, seeing every nuanced detail of the costume and props shine so brilliantly before the lens.
