[Suwako Moriya cosplay] Froggy by the Bamboo Forest Stream: A Native God's Refreshing Summer

The process of shooting this set was much wilder than I imagined. At the time, Tangyuan and I walked along the stream for quite a while before finding this patch of bamboo forest with just the right light. The stones near the water were slick and wet; while performing that single-leg standing "skimming the water" pose, I was actually secretly trying to hold my center of gravity, terrified that a lapse in focus would send me stepping into the water and soaking my dress. Luckily, we captured the exact moment when the skirt and sleeves floated up, with the wind direction cooperating perfectly to give the entire photo that light, weightless feeling of hovering over the water.

This outfit actually has plenty of detail. The purple-and-white palette looks very crisp under natural outdoor light, particularly the wide sleeves and ruffled hat brim, which add a lot of volume to the overall look. But to be honest, there were tons of mosquitoes in the bamboo forest; between shooting intervals, I was constantly spraying bug repellent while watching out for the tangled bamboo roots underfoot. Photographer Brother Lin almost half-squatted in the stream to find the best angle, getting his shoes and socks completely soaked, but the final outcome made it truly worth it.

We didn't deliberately set up complex studio backdrops this time, relying entirely on the natural environment—the deep green of the bamboo forest, the reflections on the water surface, and the dappled sunlight. These realistic light-and-shadow dynamics are hard to replicate completely in post-processing. What I hoped to present was a feeling of "blending into nature" rather than pure posing. To portray that divine agility, I repeatedly tried jumping and turning movements, ultimately choosing this composition with one leg lifted and the lotus leaf prop extending outward. The visual balance is well-maintained, allowing the focus to rest on the character's overall posture.

From preparing props to the actual Bamboo forest location shoot, although the preparation cycle wasn't long, weather shifts and site conditions presented real challenges. It was cloudy in the morning but cleared up suddenly in the afternoon; the changing color temperature required unified color grading during editing. I intentionally kept a touch of hazy highlights to bring the overall mood closer to the summer valley ambiance.

Additionally, the lower half of this dress features a slim fit that, when paired with white thigh-high stockings, nicely showcases leg lines without feeling overly deliberate, fitting a character designed around cuteness and liveliness. The lotus leaf prop was freshly picked, and its edges were already curling slightly by the time we finished, making this preview photo a "limited-time" version. There are several more shots from different angles in the upcoming full set, including more static facial captures, which will be released together later.

All in all, this was a thoroughly enjoyable outdoor shooting experience. My gratitude goes out to Tangyuan for guidance throughout, as well as Brother Lin for his patient snapshots. The light filtering through the bamboo forest, the breeze by the water, and the lotus leaf in hand gave this Touhou Project cosplay a unique memory.
