This photoshoot features Medicine Melancholy cosplay from Touhou Project's Touhou Kaeinzuka. During pre-shoot preparations, to align with her persona as the "little sweet poison," our wardrobe choices centered mainly around a Red and black Lolita color scheme. That iconic, oversized red bow is exceptionally eye-catching. The styling atop the head was repeatedly refined by makeup artist 沫二, utilizing a golden-blonde wig paired with blue colored contact lenses to visually convey an exquisite doll-like quality that perfectly matches the character's aura.
The costume features an abundance of intricate details. The upper half consists of a black long-sleeved base top with white pleated ruffled lace at the neckline, accented by a red bow tie for a richly layered structure. The lower skirt with red-and-black gradient is lavishly constructed with multiple layers of voluminous gathers and black lace trim along the edges. During the shoot, this dress took up quite a bit of space, but when spinning around or sitting quietly on the windowsill as in Photo 1, the naturally draping lines of the skirt looked absolutely stunning. For the Stocking outfit on the legs, white calf socks with ruffled frills were paired with red lace-up block heels, unifying the overall color harmony while revealing a bit of leg line to add a lively, playful visual element.
The shoot took place at a custom-built wooden windowsill set, where the surrounding frame was entwined with faux rose vines, complemented by sheer white curtains and vases of fresh flowers by the ledge, crafting the ambiance of a vintage greenhouse garden. Photographer @夜空 was exceptionally patient throughout the session, rendering the lighting and shadow of this set with rich atmosphere. The composition in the first photo is neatly structured: sitting beside the windowsill, surrounded by cascading floral vines, holding a slender silver prop, and gazing straight into the lens. The cool-toned blue eyes paired with the warm ambient light perfectly accentuated the character's ethereal detachment and subtle aura of mystery.
The second photo captures another dynamic posing state where I leaned against the wooden frame structure, using a suspended posture alongside the extending vines to form a more relaxed, nature-embracing composition. The photographer handled the angles masterfully, fully displaying both leg lines and complete costume details. The abundance of pink-and-white roses and green vines in the set formed a striking contrast against our red-and-black attire, creating vibrant color saturation. In terms of makeup and styling, artist 沫二 not only maintained my hair and face, but also thoughtfully helped adjust fabric wrinkles and posture on-set to ensure the outfit looked flawlessly draped in every frame.
For props, beyond the small hand prop, the photographer provided a long white floral garland as a finishing touch in the second photo. While holding the garland, hand movements needed to echo the linear structure of the wooden frame, so we tested numerous compositional angles before shooting. Due to the exceptionally large wig and headpiece combined with the fluffy volume of the skirt, we were very mindful of overall body movements on set to prevent the wig from tilting or the skirt from excessive awkward creasing.
In fact, for this shoot, I specially coordinated my nail colors the day before; even though fine details might not be clear in every shot, treating the cosplay process with utmost dedication cannot be compromised. The overall finished photos turned out deeply dreamy—preserving classic character elements while combining excellent lighting and set design to seamlessly fuse that sweet innocence with a sharp, poisonous edge into the frame.
