A hydrangea field in the rain carries its own inherent sense of cool melancholy. Having just finished retouching this complete set of Sankarea: Undying Love cosplay photos, I wanted to share some thoughts from the shoot. Once we decided on a rainy shoot for this character, we prepared this clear umbrella in advance—it keeps off the rain while letting light pass through beautifully, making it an absolute shooting miracle in a damp, rainy environment. On the day of the shoot, a gentle drizzle fell over a sea of blooming hydrangeas, whose blue and purple tones harmonized flawlessly with the character setting. To faithfully recreate the character, I wore this purple sailor suit paired with a blue neck bow and a blue butterfly hair accessory, alongside carefully styled long straight hair. In terms of pose concepts, we made prime use of a red chair. Sitting poses accentuate leg lines beautifully, so I highlighted black stockings and black leather shoes as key elements; combined with varying angles of the umbrella and flowers, the overall visual focus remained tightly anchored. Beyond seated poses, we captured dynamic moments—such as hair catching the breeze when standing up, cupping raindrops in my hand, and close-ups using leaves to playfully frame my face—all leaning naturally into the rainy atmosphere. In terms of composition, a wide aperture blurred the background into soft blocks of hydrangea color, making the subject stand out. Post-processing aimed primarily to preserve the authentic texture of a rainy day, subtly lowering background saturation and toning down green vegetation to avoid stealing focus, ensuring the purple sailor suit and black stockings remained eye-catching. Before taking close-ups, we tested the lighting several times; the umbrella's translucency bounced just enough soft light onto my face. Outdoor rainy shoots test both equipment and patience, but the photographer shielded the gear professionally and caught fleeting frames of hair drifting in the wind, weaving together a complete narrative. My favorite shot from this set is the centered composition sitting on the red chair looking straight into the lens, offering a crisp expression and natural leg posture. The styling and environment complemented each other seamlessly, and the gentle touch of water droplets mirrored the character's presence even more closely. The visual success largely stemmed from the natural soft diffused light of a rainy day, which proved ideal for such a tenderly melancholic character from Sankarea: Undying Love.
