Shooting this green Qipao look was far from easy, especially outdoors on stone steps at night, where hard direct lighting required precise control over every shadow and highlighted surface. Today, I'd like to share the details and reflections from this shoot.

This modified green Qipao has distinctive structural features: a cutout design at the neckline, cold-shoulder style sleeves trimmed in white piping, and intricate jacquard patterns across the fabric. To complement this styling, I selected glossy black high heels and Black stockings, a combination that beautifully elongates the leg lines. For props, I prepared a folding fan with green patterns on a white base, as well as a jade tassel pendant hanging at the side of my thigh. I also wore a green jade bangle on my wrist. The hairstyle featured black twintails accented with matching green ribbon bows. For makeup, teal contact lenses paired with reddish eyeshadow gave the gaze a sharper, penetrating intensity.

During the shoot, we tried three main poses. The first was holding the folded fan with both hands crossed over the chest, projecting an introverted, composed demeanor. The second was sitting leaning forward with the fan half-opened, looking directly into the camera. The third had my arms propped backward onto the steps with my right leg stretched forward—a posture exceptionally effective for showcasing leg contours and the texture of Black stockings, while offering an expansive, dynamic composition, which is why it was chosen as the cover.

Night shooting is demanding on lighting; we used direct hard light to crush the background shadows and highlight the illuminated planes of the subject, making skin texture and the sheen of Black stockings pop. Because the stone steps were hard, sitting on them in high heels required constantly shifting my center of gravity, which grew uncomfortable over time, but I pushed through for the sake of the final shot. Adjusting the fan's angle was also crucial; to keep the green motifs on the fan clearly visible in the frame, the photographer kept reminding me to fine-tune my wrist.

The overall palette leaned toward cool tones. The green outfit stood out vibrantly against the dark gray background, creating a striking visual contrast alongside the Black stockings and red lips. Delicate details, such as the height of the Qipao's side slit and the drape length of the thigh tassel, were carefully verified before shooting. An occasional night breeze ruffled my hair slightly, but it added a touch of natural dynamism to the frame. It was a fascinating cosplay experience, maximizing the recreation of the character's canon temperament through costume details and posed movements.
