This time, I fully recreated the Little devil costume look for Janus from Azur Lane (Janus cosplay), a styling exceptionally suited for the Halloween cosplay atmosphere. The monochrome cat-ear accessories and silver-white twintail wig set a foundation that is both adorable and subtly mischievous. The black leather choker with a metal ring around the neck, paired with the off-the-shoulder collarbone design, gives the entire outfit much richer visual depth.
Regarding fabric choices, the upper body predominantly uses high-gloss patent leather combined with semi-sheer mesh patchwork, which not only highlights original design details but also renders rich texture under studio lighting. The ruffles along the cuffs and detachable sleeves add a doll-like cuteness, while the white lace along the waist serves as a finishing touch that breaks the monotony of solid black. The lower half features a multi-layered black ruffled mini-skirt, paired with sheer black stockings and leather thigh straps (a refined Black stockings cosplay aesthetic)—from a visual perspective, this design beautifully elongates leg lines. Black high heels also complete the Gothic Lolita aesthetic.
During shooting, to align with the Little devil costume concept, I mainly experimented with two distinct physical and emotional expressions. Photo 1 features a half-crouch leaning slightly forward with fingers curled into playful kitten paws, emphasizing mischievous charm and approachable interactivity. Photo 2 adopts an upright pose with hands on hips, complemented by bright blue contact lenses and a cool gaze to project the character's composure and confidence—each style carrying its own unique flair. The photographer cleverly used cool purple ambient light from the left side, casting it across a metal cage background draped in chains. The jack-o'-lanterns in the lower-left and hay bales scattered on the ground distinctly established the Halloween cosplay setting, while the purple glow on the floor elevated the mysterious ambiance. This contrast of light and shadow focused the atmosphere of the entire frame intently.
In this shoot, the patent leather material placed high demands on lighting control. Because glossy surfaces easily produce broad specular reflections, improper angles lead to blown-out highlights, requiring continuous adjustments of angles and fill light positions throughout the session. Additionally, the garment's short cut meant that during dynamic poses, I had to ensure the skirt ruffles remained aesthetically layered and that the thigh straps didn't shift. Thankfully, the photographer was exceptionally professional, checking screen playbacks with me repeatedly to ensure every highlight and shadow fell within optimal control. This is also why I place meticulous care on wigs and props beforehand—under strong studio lighting, minor flaws get magnified instantly.
Recreating this Little devil costume series for Janus from Azur Lane (Janus cosplay / Black stockings cosplay), the overall degree of completion—from makeup and hair to costume and scenery—was truly satisfying. In the wig styling especially, hidden internal padding was added to maintain the bouncy volume of the twintails, giving the head silhouette a fuller, more balanced shape. The silver-white hair paired with soft pink lips and a translucent base makeup prevented the look from feeling overly grim despite the Gothic attire. Finding that sweet equilibrium between sugary sweetness and cool edginess is precisely where the charm of this character design lies.
