[Astra Yao cosplay] The eternal diva of this era, light and shadow on the Zenless Zone Zero stage

In this session, I tried Astra Yao cosplay. After receiving the character's setting, I formulated a shooting plan together with the photographer, finally deciding to set the scene in a retro cabaret and dance hall environment.

To recreate this atmosphere, we specially customized a deep red background cloth and warm string lights, along with that vintage brass microphone, a Marshall speaker, and an antique phonograph. Combining these props together made the on-set atmosphere very rich.

In terms of costume texture, the white waist-cinching dress paired with a red cropped jacket features a color-block design that appears very bright under the lights. The wig is the iconic green short hair paired with a white headband, featuring a very smooth texture. The makeup didn't follow the exaggerated stage makeup route; instead, a clean and clear foundation was applied, with dark eyeshadow emphasizing eye contours to make the gaze look sharper. The pearl necklace and gemstone pendant worn around the neck are very lustrous under close-up shots, and the pearl thigh ring is a subtle highlight of the styling, neutralizing the outfit's sharpness and adding a touch of playfulness.

During the shoot, I tried several different poses. In the first photo, the one-legged standing pose holding the microphone with one hand was a movement that greatly tested balance, but the result was stunning. This angle nicely integrated the layers of the skirt hem, the cuff pleats of the cropped jacket, and the lines of the legs, highlighting a slender model figure. In the sitting scene, straddling the speaker with legs naturally extending forward, paired with transparent slide sandals, visually elongated the length and created a strong color contrast between the wig and the red-and-white outfit. The close-up photo focused attention on facial expressions and interaction with the microphone, emphasizing the character's sense of confidence.

In terms of framing and composition, the photographer's lighting was quite meticulous. The main light came in at a 45-degree angle from the front, working with reflectors for fill light to prevent harsh shadows on the face, making the skin tone look soft and natural, while edge rim lighting illuminated the edges of the wig to create layering. In post-editing, I tended to preserve the authentic textures of the clothing and props, slightly adjusting color saturation to make the red and green contrast sharper without being glaring.

The shooting process this time was very fulfilling; each photo went through multiple adjustments in positioning and expression management. Although the shoot took quite some time, seeing the finished work made me feel that all the thinking and communication crystallized into the frame—this is precisely where doing cosplay photography brings the greatest sense of achievement. This is a character full of details, and I hope this set of photos conveys my understanding of this character's visual style.
