Ever since I got this outfit for Sunna, I started brainstorming pose reference ideas. Setting up a school desk and chair in a pure white studio was meant to highlight that casual yet playful anime atmosphere. The wig features mint-green pigtails with plenty of details like cat ears and hair clips on top, and the little cat pattern on the tie really captured my heart. During the shoot, photographer Wu Xie kept guiding me to relax. Since the school desk was actually quite small, sitting on it required balancing while holding various natural poses. The white thigh-highs outfit with a glossy finish looked fantastic under the studio lights, and combined with slouched white socks and sneakers, the entire ensemble felt both student-like and magically enchanting.
The magic wand served as a prop for interactive poses—paired with different gestures, it allowed for many variations, such as holding it with both hands as if casting a spell, raising it with one hand for defense, or pointing it forward to interact with the camera. We took a lot of shots this time, and my personal favorite is the one where I hold the wand with both hands while my legs hang naturally and cross slightly; the composition is very balanced, and the eye contact is spot-on. The shoot was actually quite physically draining because I had to constantly adjust my sitting posture to keep from sliding off the edge of the desk, but seeing the lighting and texture in the final photos made it all worthwhile.
The advantage of a white background is that it completely highlights the color scheme and details of the outfit. The color blocking of black, white, red, and green is exceptionally vivid, and while the wings are light and thin, they add a nimble sense of motion. The core of a good pose reference is relaxation rather than stiffness, so many seemingly casual leg-crosses and side angles were actually the result of repeated fine-tuning. I hope this set of pose references gives some inspiration to fellow cosplayers planning to do Sunna cosplay, because great expressiveness truly brings a character to life.
