For this location shoot, I chose to head to the water's edge to capture Atri, primarily wanting to embody that sense of tranquility tinged with subtle detachment found in the visual novel. For this photo set, I prepared a pale golden-blonde straight wig styled with the iconic ahoge at the crown, accented with black ribbons tied on both sides. The wardrobe featured a classic Sailor suit cosplay aesthetic: a loose-fitting white top accented by a crimson neckerchief and navy blue stripes along the cuffs. For cosmetics, crimson contact lenses were the primary highlight, ensuring the character's signature visual identity stayed distinct even beneath blinding sunlight.

Direct sunlight was intensely piercing on the day of the shoot, where glare reflecting off the water and sand made camera metering tricky. For the opening sequence, I squatted down on the beach, using a gathered tree branch to trace words across the sand. To keep the lettering sharp and legible, I traced over it multiple times. The sand was loose and shifting, and squatting for so long in black leather loafers left my ankles aching, yet to stabilize the composition, I kept my center of gravity low, allowing side lighting to carve out crisp, directional shadows.

Relocating next, I slipped off my shoes and waded barefoot into the water. The water temperature was far colder than anticipated, sending a sharp shiver through me the moment my feet submerged. Standing in the shallows, lifting one leg slightly while gently pinching the hem of my top with both hands was aimed at showcasing the garment's airy lightness above the waterline. In practice, however, subsurface refractions and ripples made steady footing difficult, requiring careful balance over coarse sand and submerged stones to avoid tumbling. In motion, light reflecting off the ripples danced across the white fabric, producing a luminous, translucent visual texture.

My favorite frame is the series seated atop the large half-submerged boulder. To complement the framing, I sat barefoot with legs loosely crossed into the water. The sparkling ripples and harsh sun made it nearly impossible to keep my eyes wide, yet for the lens, I actively managed facial tension to preserve the character's serene countenance. Seated in water poses a practical hurdle: hems quickly soak through and weigh down the fabric, while intense surface glare complicates autofocus tracking, compelling the photographer and me to iteratively calibrate angles and stances to lock in ideal lighting.

Finally came the shot standing in the water looking back over my shoulder with my back to the camera. Water had reached mid-calf, and moist sea breezes repeatedly tousled my long wig, forcing quick touch-ups between takes. Navigating the shallows demanded constant vigilance over slippery moss and jagged rocks underfoot to prevent slipping.

Overall, waterside shooting pushes physical stamina and patience to their limits. Blinding illumination, shifting gusts, and water surface refractions are constant elements to overcome. Yet this environment resonated deeply with Atri's narrative, where the sensation of time suspending across the water allowed effortless immersion into the role. With all of us soaked, keeping phones and gear dry was paramount. Packing up to depart with wet sand clinging to our soles and half-damp clothes, bringing my interpretation of this beloved character to life made every bit of effort well worth it.
