[Ye Shunguang Cosplay] Master of the Qingming Sword in Zenless Zone Zero's Bamboo Grove

The theme of this shoot centered on Ye Shunguang, Master of the Qingming Sword from Mount Yunkui, stepping away from the bustling noise of New Eridu alongside her Second Senior Sister into this secluded bamboo grove.

During pre-production communication with the photographer, we aimed to evoke an ethereal and cool aura woven with spirited grace that suited her identity as a swordmaster, leading us to pick this natural setting framed by a quiet pool and weathered stones.

Hair, makeup, and wardrobe prep took substantial effort. Pairing pure white locks and crimson robes with patterned red and white stockings and black high heels created a punchy visual impact. The prop sword was heavier in hand than anticipated, and paired with the massive white tail, suiting up and holding poses presented real physical challenges.

The outdoor ambient lighting fluctuated, but fortunately the afternoon sunlight filtering through the bamboo leaves fell with gentle diffusion, avoiding harsh studio-like shadows. The photographer lined up several specific angles: the first was a tight close-up emphasizing nuanced eye expression and makeup detail, which, highlighted by crimson contacts against porcelain skin, brought that cool detachment to the fore. For the second shot, I sat atop a boulder with one leg extended forward, using the elongated lines of the legs and stockings to elevate visual tension and seductive charm, while clasping the sword with both hands to project commanding authority. The third featured a side-seated pose softly brushing my hair, gazing into the lens to evoke a quiet, reflective glance.

We overcame numerous hurdles on set—the long tail snagged easily on underbrush and required constant resetting, while balancing in high heels across damp, slick rocks demanded cautious footing. To honor the character's core presence, outward emotional expressions were deliberately subdued, relying instead on a detached, piercing gaze toward the camera.

Post-processing preserved the authentic lush green tones of the grove, letting the subject's white hair, red stockings, and crimson ribbons pop vividly against the foliage—a chromatic contrast that sharpens character memorability. While intricate to put together, the natural interplay of light and shade brought out the exquisite quality of the embroideries, metallic buckles, and heels.

Looking back across the entire process, I am immensely pleased with the final frames; every bit of hardship crouching on stones under the heat in tight stockings and heels proved worthwhile, making for an unforgettable bamboo forest photography experience.
