[Goddess of Victory: Nikke] Sci-fi techwear style cosplay under Cold Light in a Medical room scene

The set for this shoot was arranged in a simulated medical examination room, and staging the entire environment took considerable effort. To align with the sci-fi universe of Goddess of Victory: Nikke, we opted for cold-toned blue and purple hues in the lighting setup. During the shoot, the photographer constantly adjusted lighting positions, striving to sculpt dimensional depth across my figure with cold light while preserving natural skin texture. Frankly, this type of lighting is exceptionally unforgiving on makeup and complexion—the slightest imperfection gets magnified—so the foundation was deliberately finished with a matte texture.

The wardrobe is a black-and-white Sci-fi techwear style piece featuring a cropped top with white ruffled cuffs and blue satin ribbon accents on the chest, giving the overall design rich visual dimension. This was paired with a blue wig and blue-and-white animal ear accessories; the wig went through multiple rounds of cutting and styling beforehand, especially the curve of the bangs and the layers along the sides, which had to frame facial contours cleanly. What satisfied me most were the Black patent leather long boots: they cast a phenomenal glossy sheen under the cold lights, matching the chilly atmosphere of the scene impeccably. Wearing thigh-high boots like these always requires spending time adjusting the zippers and snug fit around the legs to ensure smooth, sleek lines. Because my midriff was exposed, I also strictly watched my diet beforehand to keep my waist and core toned.

While shooting, I sat on a black examination chair, with the illuminated X-ray viewer and medical machinery behind providing fantastic practical environmental lighting. The X-ray films and CT scans clipped to the wall were specially prepared props; the authentic imagery made the backdrop look remarkably lifelike. The medical monitor on the right featured display screens alongside red, blue, and green indicator lights, adding vibrant pops of dynamic color to the cool-toned palette. The photographer had precise command over light and shadow; to evoke a cool yet slightly menacing aura, I adjusted my seated posture several times to make the boots and leg lines stand out boldly in frame. The blue light from the medical equipment falling on bare skin required careful secondary fill light to keep skin tones translucent. The chair was quite rigid, and combined with wearing shorts in a heavily air-conditioned room, staying there for extended periods got quite chilly, requiring me to drape a jacket over my shoulders to stay warm between takes.

The entire shoot was physically demanding, especially holding poses that looked nonchalant yet guarded, which required my core to stay engaged continuously. Because we shot from a high overhead angle, shifting my center of gravity was necessary to maintain natural facial expressions while creating a sense of elongation in my limbs. The wig also needed constant tidying to prevent stray strands from obstructing facial contours. Between takes, we kept checking playback and adjusting camera angles; high-angle perspectives can easily foreshorten a person, so we had to find compositions that flattered full-body proportions while seamlessly framing the background gear. Communication with the photographer was effortless, with many nuances sparking spontaneously on set—such as the direction of my gaze and placement of my hands. To complement this seated posture, the reflective angle on the patent leather boots was crucial; tilting slightly off could compromise the sleek, dark aesthetic. As this is a teaser, we selected the frames packed with the most visual tension. We tested frontal, side-profile, and slightly reclined poses, ultimately deciding that the side angle with an elevated leg best highlighted the garment's tailoring and the boots' sleek texture. We also shifted surrounding props like the monitors multiple times to make sure the frame didn't feel barren without letting them overpower the subject.

This teaser fulfilled my long-held desire to explore a sci-fi medical theme. From staging to lighting, every detail aimed to recreate that icy, high-tech texture. Although exhausting, seeing the final edits made all the preparation worthwhile. When shooting this genre, the key lies in stepping into character: gaze and posture must channel that detached, aloof distance—neither too mundane nor overly melodramatic—a delicate balance requiring constant fine-tuning. This Anime cosplay experiment gave me richer insights into shooting sci-fi concepts, and I look forward to tackling more diverse settings in the future.
