[Iochi Mari Cosplay] Blue Archive's Stage: A Special Performance for Sensei

Dedicating Mari's song to Sensei was the core theme of this photoshoot. Standing by the glass railing in this idol outfit and posing with the microphone to sing was the plan set from the beginning. The golden wig, combined with white animal ears suitable for a kemonomimi girl character and a floating yellow halo, accurately recreates the character's signature features. As for the costume, it's a white maid dress with black trim, featuring gray ruffled sleeve cuffs on the shoulders, and a prominent yellow bow on the chest inlaid with a cyan gem. The lower half is a cinched black skirt painted with white geometric patterns, offering rich layering. Wearing sheer black stockings and black high heels paired with bow elements, the overall look combines a touch of playfulness with the splendor of a stage idol.

The microphone in hand was the core prop for this shoot. Whether sitting lazily on the ground, lying sideways looking up at the night sky, or standing while pointing the microphone at the camera, every pose was designed to recreate the character's singing state on stage. In particular, frozen actions like lifting one leg or raising one arm high to wave, paired with the gentle fluttering of the skirt, allowed the images to convey a much stronger stage presence.

The location was chosen on a city's riverside viewing platform. After nightfall, the lights of city skyscrapers and the inverted U-shaped bridge in the background lit up, creating dreamy bokeh spots. The glass railing acted as a great reflective medium at night, giving the photos depth while ensuring outdoor safety. During the shoot, we primarily relied on front flash or fill lights to balance the dark ambient night lighting with the highlights on the subject, making the white base of the outfit and the yellow bow tie pop even more in this night portrait.

For cosplay, costume texture, wig styling, and prop synergy are all indispensable. Completing multiple continuous shots outdoors for a night portrait requires considerable stamina and facial expression control. The character of Mari naturally carries a healing and idol aura, so capturing that gentle yet energetic tone was key during the shoot. As for the overall look, a lot of time was spent adjusting the position of the bow tie and the pleats of the skirt to ensure a natural, fluid presence before the camera rather than a stiff one. Wig trimming and the angle of the animal ears were also verified repeatedly to deliver a consistent character impression. Though the microphone is a simple prop, it serves as the core element unifying the entire singing theme. Whether changing hand placements or eye contact direction, every effort was aimed at conveying the atmosphere of an idol performing live. For instance, a slightly angled side posture allowed lens flares and glow to refract more visibly, softening the hard front light. Outdoor photography relies heavily on the play of light and shadow; although night shooting is relatively challenging, we specifically picked a riverside spot overlooking urban architecture to emphasize Idol Mari's splendor. Every time the shutter clicked, I quickly adjusted my expression, striving to maintain a smile and engaging eye contact the moment the pose froze, enabling viewers to feel the character's innate healing presence. We also ran into issues during the shoot with changing wind directions shifting the skirt and wig out of place, but these details actually gave the final images an extra touch of lively realism. Plenty of thought went into selecting inner garments and accessories—such as hidden snaps in the collar and mounting methods for headwear—all serving as prerequisites to guarantee optimal results throughout the evening. Overall, it was an immersive cosplay experience where the outfit, styling, and location aligned perfectly with the character concept.
