This entire set of Ishtar photos has finally been fully retouched and finalized! Serving as both the model (Ah Li) and the one handling photography and post-production, this project was a complete solo endeavor from start to finish.
The preparatory stage was honestly even more intricate than the shoot itself. Ishtar's ensemble is rich with distinct elements: sleek black long straight hair, crimson irises, a gilded crown, and a matching golden choker, paired with a sleeveless top in blue and white—creating a color scheme deeply rooted in mythic majesty. To accentuate the goddess's regal aura, I styled the lower body with navy blue leg greaves and golden foot bangles. Because the framing needed to accommodate full-body compositions, body posture had to be as expansive and poised as possible. The pose—bending my right knee while propping my left hand against the rear metallic structure—might look effortless, yet stabilizing my center of gravity required intense core engagement that left me breaking into a sweat within minutes. Stepping barefoot onto the studio floor with metallic anklets clasped around my ankles meant that the slightest misalignment in stance could easily throw off my balance.
Because I personally oversaw both camera work and retouching, studio lighting had to be calculated in advance around post-production compositing needs. The purple-and-gold metallic structures in the background and the swirling golden light particles surrounding my silhouette required lighting angles to be pre-visualized during the shoot. To ensure the composite effects blended seamlessly, I made numerous micro-adjustments to the key and rim lights, guaranteeing that the subject's edge definition and dimensionality were sharp enough to anchor the visual elements placed behind.
Selecting and curating raw files involved careful deliberation over arm and leg contours. In the frame where my right hand is raised, the green and purple gemstone rings adorning my fingers added exquisite accent details. While the photograph is static, the flowing stream of golden particles injected dynamic kinetic rhythm into the frame. Compositing these glittering sand particles was by no means an automated one-click process; carefully masking and feathering them layer by layer was required to follow the folds of the cloth and the direction of light organically.
As someone passionate about mastering visual aesthetics, portraying Ishtar gave me immense creative fulfillment across both photography and post-production. The tactile contrast across garment textures—such as crisp white cloth versus rigid metallic plate armor—was preserved with great care during color grading to honor their authentic behavior under illumination. Running back and forth between posing and checking camera monitors to fine-tune framing was undeniably taxing, but seeing the mirror sheen of the armor playing against jet-black hair and ruby-red eyes made the studio session deeply rewarding. Navigating the entire process—from garment styling to postural choreography, down to the surgical control of every single specular highlight—tested patience and artistic intuition alike. I poured a tremendous amount of heart into this project, and I hope everyone can feel the tactile synergy of metal and golden stardust woven throughout the image.
