Shooting Nero inside a pool was an extraordinary experience. Nero in Fate/Grand Order is typically adorned in her regal crimson ballgown, but this time I changed into an airy, lightweight white off-the-shoulder smock detailed with signature crisscrossing red straps, seeking to honor character canon while projecting a refreshing touch of summer coolness. To match her traits, I wore emerald-green circle lenses and deepened reddish eyeshadow. Golden tresses soak up water and become noticeably heavy, with stray locks easily dispersing across the current; posing required constant head micro-adjustments to prevent wet strands from plastering across the face and obscuring expressions.

Standing in the water in this attire, buoyancy naturally lifted the hem and ruffled edges, yet soaked fabric clung tightly to the body, making locomotion and repositioning demanding. To capture the side-profile over-the-shoulder gaze seen in image 1, I continually recalibrated my center of gravity beneath the surface, engaging core strength to anchor the lower body while keeping the torso poised with grace. Water refraction and caustics posed a serious challenge for the photographer as well. The photographer, A Xiang, demonstrated exceptional professionalism: using shimmering water caustics as a natural ambient source combined with external strobes, he sculpted luminous, dewy highlights across my face while seizing sparkling specular flecks dancing over the surface. The frontal pose in image 2 with outstretched arms actually leveraged water resistance to maintain balance, allowing the white fabric and red ribbons to fan gracefully across the surface while evoking a feeling of effortless aquatic extension. The crimson straps forged a bold, arresting contrast against the azure water and white textiles.

Underwater photography severely tests makeup endurance. With rising mist and water vapor, the base required heavy-duty waterproof and friction-resistant formulations. Emerging from the water demanded immediate touch-ups and wig combing to prevent damp disarray. Soaked ruffles tangled easily, so capturing that pristine fluttering moment often meant repeatedly submerging and rising back up, depleting physical energy quickly over several sets. With the temperature difference between the pool water and ambient air, staying submerged for extended periods brought noticeable chills, necessitating a brisk, disciplined shooting tempo.

Post-shoot, thoroughly laundering the wig, garments, and accessories proved the most time-consuming task. Demanding as the shoot was, the final proofs made every trial feel immensely rewarding. Every focused gaze and glance back through the water came from continuous negotiation with the aquatic flow. I hope this collection offers everyone a fresh visual journey, granting me a renewed appreciation for Underwater photography that fuels my drive to explore character portrayals in diverse environments.
