This Zenless Zone Zero Yixuan cosplay photoshoot focused on the reflection treatment of the patent leather material and the expression of the overall aura. The black patent leather bodysuit had a great texture, but it also brought considerable difficulty to the shoot. Because patent leather is highly reflective, we had to repeatedly adjust the studio lighting angles to avoid overexposure, while retaining the fabric's own texture and the details of the transparent lace parts.
A lot of time was spent on makeup and styling beforehand. The silvery-white long hair had to be styled smoothly, and the length and curve of the bangs had to perfectly cover the eyebrows. The black hair accessory on the head was also secured with U-pins for a long time to prevent it from shifting during poses.
In terms of pose design, the left hand held up the black bird, and the right hand made a gesture in front of the chest, paired with a pose with one leg bent and raised. Visually, this type of pose maximizes the lines of the whole body and the layering of the outfit, especially the combination of black stockings and stiletto heels, which elongates the leg proportions. However, this set of movements demands extremely high balance. When standing on one leg, the center of gravity is entirely on the other foot, and the toes must grip the ground tightly inside the high heels; the supporting leg quickly feels sore. The hand holding the black bird was kept raised, and since the bird itself had some weight, I had to put it down to rest after taking a few shots.
The location was a pre-arranged Chinese-style courtyard, featuring bamboo, fences, stone platforms, and incense burners in the foreground, and blurred modern light spots in the background. We made full use of these elements in the courtyard during the shoot, such as resting the character's leg against the stone railing or using body positioning to block areas in the background that might break character. This contrasting set perfectly suits the aura of this outfit.
During the shoot, the photographer, Mr. Huai Yi, kept looking for the most suitable reflection angle on the patent leather surface, aiming for that cold, glossy feel. In post-production, enhancements were also made to the outfit's highlights and the overall atmosphere of the picture. The temperature on the day of the shoot wasn't too high, but wearing this kind of tight patent leather clothing was actually quite unbreathable. Combined with wearing stiletto heels for a long time, I felt completely exhausted after the shoot.
Although the photoshoot process was quite hard, this look is truly memorable. In particular, the gold texture details on the wings of the black bird prop, paired with the overall dark color tone, have a great texture. In terms of clothing presentation, the black patent leather material inherently possesses a cold and hard glossy feel. To ensure this corset-style bodysuit laid flat, the position and tightness of the laces were adjusted multiple times, and the inner transparent lace mesh also had to reveal just the right amount of layering within the folds. The white ruffles at the cuffs and hem are quite conspicuous against the dark colors, and attention must be paid to the angle of the neckline when wearing it to reveal them completely.
From a shooting perspective, how to use the metal fasteners at the waist and the material's reflections to increase visual three-dimensionality was also a focus this time. Because it was inconvenient to walk around and shoot, we chose a static standing pose, using the line of one bent leg with a pointed toe to place the visual focus on the legs. These high heels have stilettos, and standing on one leg for a long time is indeed a physical task.
I put a lot of thought into preparing for this cosplay, and I was also fortunate to participate in the Anime-style photography Vision Project. Overall, doing my best to recreate the charm of the character I love, and enabling more people to see and fall in love with this character through the set, makeup, props, and post-production, is the most fulfilling thing.
