Preparing for this Blue Archive Ichinose Asuna cosplay Christmas reindeer-themed photoshoot took a much longer cycle than what everyone sees in the final images. From the silver-gray gradient wig matching the character's traits to those striking bright blue contact lenses, both required repeated adjustments during trial makeup for angle and saturation to achieve a translucent effect under bright studio lights. The fluffy Christmas reindeer ears on my head, along with the holly leaves and red berries at their base, were meticulously glued on to ensure the underlying hairclip structure wouldn't show in any high-angle or profile shots.
For the costume, I chose high-texture velvet fabric to craft this red-and-white Christmas bodysuit. The deep V off-the-shoulder design not only preserved the character's signature style, but also suited the playful sexiness of the holiday theme. To give the fluffy white trim a natural look without any cheap plasticky feel, whether on the neckline, cuffs, or hem, fibers of matching tones were carefully selected. The white plush choker with a small red metal bell added plenty of lively charm to the entire ensemble. Of course, to complete this look, the bottom was paired with matte Black stockings. During the shoot, these matte stockings not only flattered leg contours without harsh glare like shiny pantyhose, but also created a wonderful color contrast with the red velvet fabric. The reindeer hoof mittens on my hands were also distinct, with contrasting brown and red tones adding fun visual interest in close-up shots.
Studio set staging was the soul of this photoshoot. To match the winter and holiday atmosphere, a vintage study scene was specially built. The background featured large dark wood bookshelves filled with hardcover books, infusing warmth and intellect. To the right stood an exquisitely decorated Christmas tree with branches dusted with faux snow and hung with red and gold ornaments. In the lower-left foreground was a delicate Tiffany-style stained-glass table lamp featuring butterfly and floral motifs, casting an enchanting glow when lit. Beside it sat an antique photo frame with rose patterns and a cream cake topped with fresh strawberries. Honestly, seeing the cake made me want to take a bite right away, though I had to sit poised for the photos. The expansive red drapery throughout the set served as a great color backdrop, lending clear depth to the composition. Vintage brass candle holders beside the left bookshelf further elevated the classical texture of the scene.
During the shoot, my photographer partner and I constantly discussed the use of lighting. Unlike high-contrast hard light, for this set we favored soft illumination and rim backlighting to outline the subject. As you might notice in several close-ups, there is a gentle halo of rim light along the edges of my silver hair and plush trims, making the scene feel dreamlike and premium while highlighting the dimensional texture of the velvet. We specifically experimented with wide-angle shots and telephoto half-body frames. The wide-angle captured the full indoor ambiance, showing off the lavish vintage spatial depth, while the telephoto focused on the gaze and skin texture—especially the delicate glint of the blue eyes under the light. The photographer also captured frames with foreground blur, using out-of-focus Christmas tree branches to enhance depth. This professional framing brought versatile visual variety to a single studio set. Between the costume material, heavy wig, and studio heating, shooting wasn't effortless—especially when executing crossed-hand or gesturing poses in reindeer hoof mittens, where pressure had to be controlled to prevent fabric bunching. Fortunately, our teamwork was seamless, capturing many satisfying moments.
The charm of this look lies in blending Christmas warmth and festivity with Asuna's confident, slightly mischievous persona. Whether smiling while resting my chin on my hands or lifting one leg for a lively pose, every movement aimed to naturally integrate the character into this holiday setting. With every photo set, beyond makeup and styling, conveying posture and presence is equally vital. In front of the camera, I needed to interpret how she would feel in this outfit, not just robotically copying the original design, but truly letting the character live in this candlelit, book-scented Christmas night. Wrapping up the shoot left me tired, but seeing the final images made every bit of effort worth it.
