Cosplaying Frieren is actually less about how gorgeous the outfit is and more about whether you can capture that relaxed, endless-journey feel unique to an elf. This set of photoshoot photos was done at Baxi Island in Yuelu District, Changsha, on a beautifully sunny afternoon.
As for the makeup and styling, to stay true to the character, I specifically prepared a silver-white twin-tail wig paired with elf ears. The overall makeup went for a cool, gentle, and quiet look without heavy colors, matching as closely as possible that natural, effortless elf vibe from the original series. Costume details referenced classic designs: the outer white cape features gold trim, while a red gem at the neckline adds a touch of layering. The inner black-and-white stripes, black tight tights, and brown ankle boots were chosen to look clean and practical during outdoor shooting.
Regarding prop experience, I prepared quite a few large items this time. The core piece was that long staff—its gold crescent top circling a red gem, accented with a touch of pink ribbon. To complement this prop, I brought a red leather suitcase and an antique-style book. The red, white, and gold color combination came out wonderfully under natural light.
The shooting process was also quite thoughtful. Because the woods on Baxi Island have many trees with vertical lines, direct mid-day sunlight on a bright day would create too much contrast. So we chose a late afternoon time slot when slanting sunlight filtered through layers of leaves, casting dappled light and shadows across the forest floor. In several shots sitting on the grass, the light perfectly outlined my facial profile, creating a warm tone that felt deeply serene.
In terms of poses and expressions, I tried to capture that slight obliviousness and leisurely travel vibe from the original work. For instance, using the book as a visor against the sun, or lying directly by the dry grass reading a book to display those iconic ankle boots and black tights, casually conveying her everyday life. The shots of walking through the woods, though close-up details, were meant to show that atmosphere of carrying luggage and moving forward alone.
I really recommend Baxi Island in Yuelu District, Changsha. Its natural woodland scenery has much more warmth than an artificial green screen, and paired with the evening backlight, it naturally brings a fairytale feel. A cosplay photoshoot like this doesn't need heavy post-processing sharpening—the soft warm tones of the raw shots are already heart-stirring enough.
The whole shoot wasn't rushed at all; it felt more like taking the character on a half-day trip here. Reading under tree shadows, walking along paths feeling the gentle breeze—the photography team collaborated wonderfully, always quick to capture the most natural, comfortable moments. Though this elf seems a bit slow-paced, her journey seems to be just like this: experiencing the world day after day in a quiet stroll. I hope this outdoor shoot conveys a casual yet peaceful atmosphere as another form of tribute to this character.
