This red and white Japanese style shrine maiden outfit features a translucent white linen-blend fabric for the top and a structured red inner skirt. Against the sunlight and water reflections, the white outer garment presents a soft texture. The thick red cord tied at the neckline is the finishing touch, echoing the red borders at the waist and cuffs to form visual anchor points. The bottom is a draped red maxi skirt, providing a beautiful sense of line whether standing or walking.

The wig was specifically chosen with layered black hairpieces, retaining the iconic straight bangs and the face-framing sidelocks. A white ribbon is tied at the end of the hair, striving to recreate the character's pure, simple, and cool demeanor. The shoot location was selected in an open area with a waterscape. The torii gate in the water serves as a frame for the foreground and background, adding layers to the image. Especially in the shot looking into the distance or from behind, the water surface is as calm as a mirror; the blue sky, white clouds, red torii gate, and the character's reflection are all cast in the water, creating a vast yet introspective atmosphere. The silhouettes of distant mountains also add significant depth to the scene. This composition looks exceptionally clean against the blue sky, making the character stand out even better.

In terms of makeup, heavy colors were avoided, relying mainly on eyeshadow to deepen the eye contours, paired with a natural lip color to keep the makeup looking as fresh as possible. In front of the camera, I tried to restrain outward emotions, embracing more calmness and composure. In fact, when interpreting this type of character filled with regret and resoluteness, body language and the gaze are much more important than mere physical resemblance. When standing still, I didn't deliberately puff out my chest, keeping the posture relaxed yet upright, and combined with a slightly tilted or lowered head angle, I attempted to capture that feeling of determination mixed with a trace of loneliness.

During the cosplay photography session, the wind was a wonderful addition. The cuffs and hair ribbon gently fluttered in the breeze, infusing the static composition with a sense of dynamic vitality. The lighting for this photo set was mainly concentrated in the late afternoon, where the sunlight was soft enough to bring out the delicate glow of the skin without being harsh. Special attention must be paid during outdoor shoots in this kind of weather, as water reflections are very strong; thus, fill light is crucial to avoid heavy facial shadows. Although I didn't bring many external photoshoot light sources this time, the light and shadow effects under pure natural light turned out to be more organic, offering a refreshing documentary feel.

From completing the styling to the actual location shoot, this photo set took a full half-day to complete. Because many angles needed adjustment to ensure the integrity of the torii gate while keeping the character in proper proportion within the frame. After trying several different compositional approaches, I finally found that standing in the center of the boardwalk and looking back at the camera was the best angle to display the full details of the outfit. This shooting method without complex sets or props allows people to focus more on the character itself instead. In the vast natural background, the red and white attire becomes the visual center, forming a natural harmony with the environment.

What needs to be noted in this type of outdoor shoot is that there are many surrounding distractions; hence, high-angle or low-angle perspectives are often adopted during framing to avoid the distant town buildings in the background, keeping only the mountains and cloud layers as the skyline. When actually standing in front of the lens, the breeze on-site not only brought coolness but also allowed the wide sleeves to flutter with a natural curvature, adding movement to the frame. Overall, this shoot focused more on the fusion between the character, the environment, and the light and shadow.

Lastly, I want to say that revisiting this character after so many years feels truly different in terms of mindset. It's no longer just about looking good on the surface, but starting to contemplate the quiet yet immensely powerful strength within her. Being able to shoot a final photo set that satisfies me this time can be considered a formal closing statement for my childhood. The entire process didn't deliberately chase any so-called mind-blowing effects; it was more about flowing with the natural atmosphere at the time, focusing on recording this sense of composure carrying a vintage vibe for this anime cosplay project.
