[Yutori Natsu Cosplay] Daily Thoughts on Sponge Cake in Blue Archive

For this photoshoot at Firefly ACG Expo, I chose the character Yutori Natsu from Blue Archive, centering the overall preparation on recreating her light, everyday aura. For this outfit, the core challenge lay in the detached design between the pink cheongsam-style sleeveless top and sleeve covers. The fabric selected was soft yet offered sufficient structure, ensuring a natural drape when worn without looking stiff. Red piping along the collar and frog button details were key focus areas; precise stitching was required for the collar curve to contour naturally. The sleeve covers are unique—large white ruffled trims combined with pink wide-sleeve paneling created a lovely flowing effect during body movements, enhancing visual layering.

Regarding props, I brought two snack boxes in different states. One was in pink packaging with a white rabbit motif, serving as a handheld prop to enrich hand poses during close-ups and half-body shots. The other was a red version of the same box, placed on the sofa beside me as a scene accent. The geometric halo ring hovering above her head is also an iconic element. Considering potential wind outdoors, I used lightweight materials to build the structural frame and added extra anchor points so it stayed securely fixed to the wig. The white hair buns and red ribbons on both sides also required styling fixes, as they could easily get disheveled in crowded expo conditions.

For the wig, I used light pink heat-resistant fiber. To fit the character image, the bangs were trimmed into a slightly thick straight fringe with a subtle inward curve to soften facial contours. Side locks were braided into thick pigtail braids; controlling braid tension was critical, as too tight looked stiff while too loose unraveled easily. The hair was accessorized with fluffy white hair buns and red ribbon knots. As for makeup, to match character lore, I selected reddish contact lenses; eye makeup avoided overly heavy shades, prioritizing fine eyeliner shaping and distinct lashes paired with a natural pink lip glaze to evoke an energetic, fresh aesthetic.

We chose an outdoor setting with greenery, where lighting was very soft. A gray outdoor bench and a white plush rug added a warm homey/relaxed atmospheric touch to the composition. Weather at the expo was a bit hot that day, making layered clothing and over-the-knee socks somewhat challenging physically. However, black thigh-high socks paired with this outfit definitely enhanced body proportions and character recognition. For posing, the seated pose in the second photo nicely highlighted the socks and shoe pairing, balancing body contours and limb extension in the composition.

Portraying this character, my biggest takeaway was conveying that earnest yet innocent attitude toward everyday trivialities. Just like the line in the post about daily thoughts on sponge cake, I aimed for a natural look gazing inadvertently into the lens through set design and movement. Whether in close-up shots holding the prop with both hands or tilted-head glances while seated, every pose sought to capture her specific spirit. The color scheme and lighting of the entire set were adjusted by the photographer to complement the main pink hue, delivering a warm, softly dreamy atmosphere. In a limited expo environment, harmonizing background greenery, gray couch tones, and dominant pink costume hues required constant communication and adjustments with the photographer. The final result successfully recreated the endearing image of her musing over daily trivialities in my mind.
