For this Zenless Zone Zero Yidhari shoot, the primary focus was delivering images Straight out of camera (SOOC). Without AI generation or heavy retouching, we relied entirely on on-set lighting and pre-shoot preparations. To embody that mysterious, mechanical vibe characteristic of the Octopus girl, we poured extensive effort into early planning.
Starting with the wardrobe: the white top splices in black leather accents with a front cutout design, while the purple spiral accessory along the collar and the metallic dial on the waist carried rich tactile presence under the strobes. The lower half paired a black micro-skirt with fishnet tights, layered further with over-the-knee socks and platform boots to infuse an intense combat-ready feel. The wig was styled as a light-blonde cropped cut with front bangs curved into signature crescent curls; paired with violet colored contacts, the character's cold, striking beauty surfaced immediately.
The most eye-catching fixtures on set were the purple inflatable tentacles and the massive polearm. The head of the weapon is a heavy black cylinder edged with gear-like teeth and stenciled with lettering along the side, possessing considerable heft in hand. Striking diverse poses required maintaining a steady grip without obscuring body contours—a genuine test of physical endurance. Arranging those tentacle props was equally labor-intensive, positioning them in coiling formations around me to evoke the right atmosphere, yet the final result was undeniably striking.
Special thanks to photographer Cheng Shen'ai. Shooting Straight out of camera (SOOC) means the photographer must calibrate exposure, framing, and color perfectly before pressing the shutter. The set was bathed in violet-toned illumination against a pure violet backdrop—a lighting scheme that heavily tests skin clarity and fabric grain. While posing reclining on the floor, I explored various angles to arch the torso gracefully, highlighting leg contours and the Black stockings. In seated stances, the focus shifted toward accentuating upper-body curves and leaning naturally against the props. Because there was zero post-production, every inch of skin, strand of hair, and fabric crease was rendered in its most authentic state, leaving no room for carelessness.
Ultimately, shooting without retouching tests one's confidence and focus above all. With meticulous groundwork, execution on set flows smoothly. Though holding fixed poses for extended stretches left my muscles aching, seeing the raw previews straight from the camera confirmed that every ounce of effort paid off. The overall color palette and prop ambiance resonated flawlessly; the fusion of mechanical and Cthulhu-esque elements delivered even greater visual impact through an unedited lens.
The entire shoot progressed seamlessly with fantastic teamwork and micro-adjustments along the way. These raw frames captured remarkably authentic moments, making it a truly unique creative experience.
