The shooting plan for Zenless Zone Zero's noise reduction test has finally come to fruition. This time, choosing Nekomiya Mana's look, I was instantly drawn to its intense material contrast and hardcore biker feel. The overall color scheme is an eye-catching red, white, and black, but the layering of different fabrics gives this outfit immense visual tension against a retro industrial environment. The checkered tube top on the chest patchworks white fabric, and the glossy reflective red material along the edges displays highly saturated luster under studio lights, while the stiff PVC texture outerwear on the arm sleeves and leg sleeves adds a sharp sense of silhouette to the overall styling.
The part that gave me the biggest headache this time, yet also became the most eye-catching feature of the finished photoset, is this white tubular tail winding around my body. Unlike the softness of ordinary plush tails, it features a certain supporting structure. Paired with black straps and rivet details, it fits the character's cyber biker attributes perfectly. To maintain a natural curvature for the camera, we spent a lot of time before the shoot adjusting its supporting angle and position, ensuring it wouldn't look awkward in various poses.
The shooting venue was chosen at a typical industrial-style garage bar. Stacked discarded tires, graffiti iron sheet barrels, and the well-arranged liquor bottle racks in the background set a cold, hard, yet lazy tone for the entire photoset. To complement the atmosphere of the scene, I attempted several different interactive movements. Sitting on the floor with legs extended while tossing a rope was intended to express a casual, leisure state; sitting on an oil barrel with one hand bracing the edge showcased the cunning and agility of a cat-like girl; crouching on a barrel or leaning on it on one leg blended motion and stillness to prevent the frame from looking rigid.
A lot of thought went into the light and shadow setup for this shoot. Warm yellow side-backlight hit the glossy red and black materials, and the reflection allowed the character's silhouette to break away from the dark background more clearly. This high-contrast light and shadow is highly suitable for this mech-style outfit, and it also beautifully highlights the patchwork details of the leg armor and boots. These high-top boots carry a mechanical armor style and are relatively stiff, taking some effort to put on and take off, but they stretch the leg lines beautifully when standing or leaning. The visual cutoff effect formed with the black shorts enhances the layering of the entire lower body, showing a great Biker Punk Style.
The cooperation with photographer Teacher Qingfeng Wuji this time was highly synchronized; his control over the light and dark tones of industrial scenes is extremely precise. At the moment the shutter was pressed, I tried my best to complete expression management by combining Nekomiya Mana's agile yet cool and sharp personality as a "Nekomata." There was no need for overly exaggerated smiles; a slightly upturned corner of the mouth, paired with red contact lenses and beast ear hair accessories, captured the character's expression perfectly. From adjusting details during the pre-shoot makeup check to continuous positioning and lighting adjustment during the shoot, and finally to the finished photos, the entire process was a highly fulfilling experience for me. Keeping the original aspiration to recreate my favorite characters, and expressing the character's outline and personality through suitable scenes and lens language is exactly the fun I have been pursuing on this path of Anime cosplay.
