Nine different styling sets of Sonoda Umi, combined with pieces accumulated over a decade ago—before I even realized it, I had completed shooting thirteen different Umi cosplay outfits. I've gathered them here to share the behind-the-scenes shoot details and makeup concepts.

First up is the blue-and-gold exotic coordinate. This costume featured an immense number of metallic accessories, particularly the headpiece and neck ornament. To keep them securely in place during large, dynamic dance movements, I relied heavily on bobby pins and fashion tape. To match the grandeur of the attire, the makeup incorporated deeper, multi-layered eyeshadow accented with fine rhinestones near the corners of the eyes.

The second outfit is the blue-and-white checkered dress. This one leans toward a vintage, everyday aesthetic, so for the wig styling, I trimmed the bangs slightly shorter to give off a gentler, more obedient vibe. We picked a clean, solid backdrop to keep the primary focus on facial expression and body language.

Then comes the stage performance outfit paired with shorter blue hair. To recreate the authentic concert stage lighting, the studio setup utilized targeted overhead and rim lights. Because the jacket and tie featured delicate gold piping, post-processing avoided oversaturation to preserve the original fabric texture.

The white-and-blue hooded robe shot at an outdoor winter convention was bitterly cold. We originally planned a full choir-style photoshoot, but the wind was simply too fierce, leaving us with just this single bust-up shot accompanied by commemorative text. In reality, voluminous robes like that allow you to wear plenty of thermal layers underneath—a handy little winter cosplay tip of mine.

As for the modern modified kimono miniskirt paired with white Stockings, it was captured as a mirror selfie. To flatter the leg lines, I did light stretching beforehand and opted for 3cm kitten heels, subtly elongating proportions without exhausting my feet. The casual JK school uniform look was casually arranged right at home; eating watermelon was a spontaneous idea that ended up feeling wonderfully natural and candid.

Lastly, the white tulle gown crowned with a tiara. Side braids complemented by the tiara created an unmistakably regal, elegant tone. The eye makeup took a noticeable departure, leaning into pink undertones while softening the upward flick at the end of the eyeliner.

Looking back at these thirteen coordinates—from sourcing props and costumes to the final shutter click—every phase demanded immense dedication. Dark blue wigs look artificial under harsh studio lights if overly shiny, so I treated each with matte spray. Whether in midriff-baring sets or miniskirts, maintaining core stability was key to capturing clean silhouettes. This is merely a milestone log, and I look forward to bringing even more versions of Umi to life in the future.
