[Hugo cosplay] Capturing My Self-OC with CCD Photography

The output of this set of Self-OC photos taken with a CCD camera really met my expectations. Because I was cosplaying my own original character, "Hugo," whether it was the direction of the makeup or the accessory details, I could freely express things according to the most ideal image in my heart.

The device chosen this time was a CCD camera. Its highlight bloom and slightly retro cool color tones happened to balance the character's ornate feel, making the contrast between golden hair and the royal blue dress look richer in texture. For the overall styling, I selected a bright yellow straight wig, with slight styling at the crown, paired with a pair of fluffy white animal ears for an Animal ear wig setup. At the base of the ears, royal blue satin ribbons were tied into bows, overlaid with black bat wing ornaments featuring small golden keyhole details, adding a touch of fantasy. The silver necklace pendant around my neck resembled a vintage key, embellished with blue, white, and clear beads, echoing the color scheme of the round blue-gem-textured support board in this Blue-themed outfit. The bracelet was made of frosted milk-green beads; although only a small section is visible in the photos, it added quite a sense of weight and delicacy to the wrist during shooting.

The round support board in the first photo actually carried many details: the black frame and 3D black bat wings framed the picture, with gradient blue-and-white pleated ribbons on the inside. Printed in the center was an illustration reading "HUGO" in English. Holding it in front of my face as a cover for the shot not only added a layer of storytelling and mystery to the image, but also focused attention on my eyes and the intricate decorations of the upper half. In contrast, the second photo had no prop obstruction, completely revealing my makeup, gaze, and the off-the-shoulder gown cut. The line from collarbone to neck looked exceptionally clean and sharp under direct flash in this CCD photography session, which, paired with my hand gently touching my neck, beautifully presented the gentle yet cool demeanor of this Self-OC photoshoot.

Honestly, as Hugo's creator, cosplaying my own original character feels quite different in mindset compared to cosplaying established anime characters. Cosplaying existing characters focuses more on accuracy and fidelity, whereas cosplaying a Self-OC is more of a satisfying realization of one's inner concepts. In terms of color choices, I used gold and blue as primary tones, supplemented by white plush and black dark element accents; the visual punch actually became less harsh in the soft CCD lens. Finding angles in front of the gray patterned wallpaper while shooting, indoor light sources combined with the camera flash slightly deepened shadows behind me, which happened to enhance the overall mood of the photos—without overly complex lighting, it retained an intimate, personal photoshoot feel.

Regarding accessory details, the silver pendant and bracelet all possessed authentic material weight and texture. During shooting, they could easily reflect harsh light if not careful, requiring constant adjustments to reflect a warm, smooth glow. Choosing this outfit and styling wasn't about chasing overly exaggerated cuts; the royal blue fabric carried its own subtle shimmer, and the off-the-shoulder design allowed neck exposure without feeling overly thin. For a Self-OC Hugo cosplay, the process is an ongoing refinement of the setting inside one's mind. This post records such a deeply comforting and self-expressive photoshoot experience.
