Shooting this Honor of Kings Yu Ji cosplay skin, Farewell My Concubine, in the studio was truly an experience of bittersweet joy. The visual impact of this costume is incredibly striking: a clash of red, black, and gold, paired with that colossal headdress of red and blue pom-poms that demanded constant neck support to bear its weight. The metal filigree and pearl textures on the headdress were exquisite, yet genuinely heavy; to maintain an upright, regal stance before the lens, my head angle required repeated micro-adjustments. The garment details are exceptionally refined: a black form-fitting base beneath a tailored red battle robe, tightly cinched by a metallic silver-textured corset. While it beautifully accentuated the waistline, wearing it essentially restricted breathing to shallow sips. The side slits of the skirt are daringly high, subtly revealing black undershorts with every step—designed to reflect the character's combat agility, though requiring constant vigilance over pose range to avoid wardrobe malfunctions in this Traditional Chinese style cosplay.

The most challenging part of the shoot was coordinating props with body language. The golden weapon in hand featured sharp, aggressive contours; while not overly heavy, its long crimson silk ribbons easily tangled during poses. To capture flowing, graceful arcs of the ribbons, an assistant constantly tossed them from just outside the frame. For the high-kick stance thrusting the weapon forward, I had to repeat the movement a dozen times in red high-heeled platform shoes just to freeze a crisp, flawless frame. The core had to remain fully engaged because the high-slit skirt and steep heels made balance notoriously tricky; my thigh muscles were secretly trembling with effort, yet my facial expression had to project the character's calm, resolute poise. Studio lighting was dialed in hard and contrasty; red fabrics easily oversaturate under intense glare, so the photographer and I spent considerable time metering light to preserve the intricate jacquard patterns and blue-black border lines, ensuring the overall texture remained sharp and dimensional.

The design of this costume inherently commands theatrical presence, meaning movements cannot be soft—they require crisp pauses and deliberate tension. For a heavy-gear Convention photo shoot like this, pre-shoot prep and on-set adjustments are perpetually the most exhausting aspects. Wig styling also demanded early preparation: the curvature of the bangs and the fit of the sideburns directly dictate the outcome, as the slightest greasiness or flattening ruins the spirited look. Exhausting as the shoot was, reviewing the monitor and seeing the striking clash of red and black blocks made every bit of fatigue worthwhile. Looking forward to the retoucher bringing out the full richness of this light and shadow.
