[Blue Cat cosplay] The Eastern Maid in Black Butler: A Fitting Room Costume-Check Record

This time I'm trying on this casual idol-costume style of Blue Cat from Black Butler. I've always wanted to challenge a look that carries traditional elements while integrating exaggerated anime decorations. Today, I finally gathered the wig and costume, so I quickly took a few fitting photos in front of my dorm's backdrop wall.
First, about the wig part. This black wig is very thick; the straight bangs and the double buns on both sides are the soul, which, combined with the thick braids, can instantly frame the face to look smaller. To recreate that oriental aura, I intentionally added a huge pink silk flower on top of my head, paired with bright yellow long tassels. The color contrast is extremely intense, which makes the overall visual pop even against the black-and-white manga wall backdrop. For eye makeup, to get closer to the character's feel, I used bright yellow colored contacts, with eyeshadow blended into a reddish-brown outer corner to elongate the eyes. Paired with deep black eyeliner and lower eyelashes, it makes the eyes look very deep, carrying a touch of laziness and mystery.
For the costume, the inner layer is a light lotus-root-pink stand-collar shirt, featuring a traditional Chinese frog-button design at the neckline, which perfectly matches the character's quiet and somewhat detached temperament. The outer layer is paired with a deep blue jacket featuring fine jacquard patterns on the surface; the fabric is crisp, supporting the shoulder contours to create a layered feel of softness inside and stiffness outside. The cuffs and hem are also cleanly designed, preventing it from looking bulky. During the shoot, I kept the jacket slightly open to reveal the inner collar, making it look more breathable visually.
As for the shooting environment, I chose a wall covered in manga panels as the backdrop. This dense black-and-white pattern perfectly sets off the vibrant colors of the character while strengthening the 2D anime atmosphere, allowing people to feel at a glance that it's in the setting of an Anime convention costume fitting or a private shoot. In the first picture (Picture 1), I added a social media notification box and a banner with white text on a red background, originally intending to record the little joy of gaining followers. However, as an official costume-check cover, the second picture (Picture 2) is cleaner and carries more artistic tension. In this frame, the character is centered with a natural expression, free from redundant text blocking, completely displaying the details of the makeup and outfit, and better highlighting the character's trait of staring quietly.
Overall for this costume fitting, wearing the wig requires patient adjustment, especially the balance point between the flower on top and the tassels; if it tilts, it looks uncoordinated. Moreover, this kind of thick braid is quite heavy, and wearing it for a long time will pull on the scalp, so it is recommended to secure more bobby pins inside to distribute the weight. Attention should be paid to the strength applied when unbuttoning and buttoning the frog-buttons of the garment to avoid tearing the fabric. This shoot used a phone's front camera plus a fill light; although it lacks the blur effect of a professional DSLR, the skin texture and makeup colors can be beautifully presented in daily records once the light is evenly distributed.
Black Butler features many highly unique characters, and Blue Cat's costume design is genuinely recognizable, possessing both Eastern classical charm and retro fantasy elements. This fitting has helped me understand the skills needed for this layered coordination and wearing complex hair accessories. If there is a chance to attend an anime convention, this look will absolutely make people's eyes light up. Moving forward, I will further refine the accessories, such as holding the iconic props or adjusting the dangling angle of the tassels, striving to present a more accurate and complete texture in official shoots for this Traditional Chinese style cosplay.
