This Mayene costume had been hanging in my closet for quite a while, so taking advantage of a sunny weekend, I teamed up with a photographer for an outdoor on-location shoot in a local classical garden. The outfit's palette is strikingly eye-catching—a black-and-yellow color-blocked jacket paired with a bright yellow midriff-baring base, delivering bold visual impact. To maximize fidelity, I invested heavy effort into wig styling: sculpting short orange-gold tresses into her signature mini-bun and yellow ribbon bow to stay as faithful as possible to the canon character design. The makeup embraced a vibrant, spirited direction with warm orange-toned eye shadows matching the lip shade; once the colored contacts went in, that sharp, spirited gaze immediately came alive. Because the look features an exposed midriff, I deliberately dialed in my diet and ramped up core training days ahead of time to ensure peak form before the lens.

Shooting inside traditional gardens demands a keen eye for ambient light. In the morning, direct sun caused harsh exposure across the covered walkways and rockeries, so we pivoted our schedule, waiting until 3:00 to 4:00 PM when the sunlight softened to launch into full production. In one frame seated on a wooden pavilion bench, sunlight sliced diagonally through the pillars, carving a crisp rim light along my legs and waistline; a slight bump in contrast and saturation in post-processing instantly unlocked rich atmospheric depth. In another take beside the rockery, the photographer had me rest one foot on a lower boulder, leaning back slightly against the crags with one hand resting casually across my chest. While it looked effortless, maintaining that pose on uneven rock surfaces in platform shoes tested my core balance and ankle stamina over long exposures.

For pose choreography, I channeled her in-game personality—seemingly relaxed and nonchalant on the surface, yet razor-sharp, agile, and confident underneath. Striking poses shouldn't feel rigid; the reach of an arm or the bend of a knee requires deliberate experimentation. I drew inspiration from martial arts ready-stances and envisioned her casual, carefree posture around Jixia Academy, which made my facial expressions and eye focus significantly more animated. This collaboration was an unpaid TFP photoshoot, and our creative communication was seamless throughout. We aligned early on composition and scenic depth, utilizing carved timber railings, weathered artificial crags, and tranquil koi ponds as textured backdrops that complemented the bold primary colors of the outfit.

Every cosplay endeavor requires substantial dedication—from test fittings and scouting locations to calibrating angles with the photographer. Despite the daytime heat and spending hours running around in leg warmers and chunky platforms, previewing the raw camera frames made every ounce of exhaustion fade. During final curation, we set aside takes with slightly strained expressions, selecting the sharpest compositions with genuine attitude for high-end retouching. For me, cosplaying means translating personal resonance with a character through tailored textiles and body language. Standing amid this timeless garden and catching my reflection through the lens, it truly felt like shattering the 2D barrier for a fleeting, soulful dialogue with Mayene.
