[Miyue cosplay] Honor of Kings: Shenzhen Anime Convention Photo Showcase

Captured this set of Miyue cosplay convention photo shots on-site at Shenzhen Anime Convention. With the bustling crowds of the convention floor, it was a great opportunity to take atmospheric photos with a sense of presence entirely different from studio shoots. The wig took a long time to style this time—that curved horn structure and the layered sides really tested both the wig stylist and the cosplayer's own adjustments. For makeup, I selected a darker lipstick to complement the purple hair color, and extended the eyeliner to convey the character's mysterious and haughty aura.

The costume was the star of the show. The glossy patent leather fabric is very form-fitting, and when venue lighting hits the fabric, reflections accentuate body contours into a more 3D look. The metallic chest design combined with cut-out tailoring requires exceptionally high precision in fit when worn. The large expanse of purplish-red feather accents on the shoulders keeps the upper body from looking sparse, bestowing a gorgeous, commanding presence instead. Those dangling blue-violet fabric strips create a lovely flowing motion while walking, which served as a huge bonus in convention photos.

The raven prop used for shooting was also central to this look. Holding this prop gracefully requires technique to strike good poses—appearing composed while balancing the prop with overall body posture. During the shoot, foot placement was intentionally asymmetric: one side featured a patent leather knee-high boot, while the other showed sheer light-colored stockings patterned with black feathers. This contrast looks visually compelling on camera.

One major difficulty in shooting convention photos is controlling light. The overhead venue lights at anime conventions create messy, multi-point light sources that can easily leave chaotic glare on glossy patent leather without proper lighting techniques. Luckily, photographer Lanyuan excelled at catching angles, blending ambient lighting with off-camera flash seamlessly to keep the costume's material texture fully intact in the frame.

Because of the heavy foot traffic on the second day, wearing this outfit all day was physically exhausting—the patent leather fabric is completely non-breathable, making me sweat constantly. However, seeing these finished photos made all the fatigue from repeatedly tweaking poses before the lens melt away.

Choosing to present this character through convention photos stems from feeling that anime conventions, as spaces imbued with ACG culture, offer a backdrop where cosplay photos better express the collision between characters and the real world. Rather than chasing the flawless, clinical cleanliness of studio photography, preserving authentic moments better communicates the character's intrinsic charm.

Every convention photo set is a unique record where we strive to recreate character temperament within limited environments. Bringing together costume, hair, makeup, props, and photographer collaboration to present a final image set like this was an extraordinary cosplay experience for me.
