The event photos for this Yu Linglong look from the Nanning Liangya Summer Festival at the Nanning Anime Convention are finally organized, recording some of my live snapshot moments at the convention.
A lot of thought went into the design and early prep work for this outfit. The upper garment body utilizes a denim-blue fabric with a subtle luster, combining a Chinese standing collar with frog button closures from Modern Cheongsam elements, while cuffs are spliced with black translucent gauze, striking a balance between structure and softness. Pearl strands and metal chains across the chest add visual layering, while dangling red cords and copper coin pendants serve as one of the outfit's visual focal points, swaying with walks and turns to add great dynamic effect.
The lower half features Black stockings style thigh-high socks with unique printed patterns combined with leg harness straps, visually elongating leg proportions. For shoes, royal blue stiletto heels were specifically chosen, where the red pom-pom at the toe perfectly echoes the waist's red cord. Complemented by accentuating red thin cords across the body, the overall palette unfolds around blue, black, and red—possessing two-dimensional tension while retaining the restraint of traditional Chinese style elements.
Makeup-wise, paired with a long straight black wig and cat-ear hair buns on top, the eye makeup chose a reddish-gold palette combined with yellowish-brown contact lenses, brightening the gaze and pairing with red lips to blend cool detachment with a hint of playfulness. Red rune tattoos on the arms are also part of the design; large areas of negative space alongside localized accents enhance character setting immersion.
Equipment used for this shoot included a Canon EOS R6 II and RF 24-70mm lens. In convention environments with complex overhead lighting, a wide aperture's advantage is obvious—suppressing messy background booth details and crowds to isolate the main subject. On-site lighting was cool and harsh, but the photographer flexibly adjusted angles for even facial illumination, which, combined with light reflections through transparent gauze and black stockings, resulted in rich textural layers.
Among this Event photo sharing set, my personal favorite is the standing look-back shot. That casual glance back combined with raised hand posture perfectly displays the garment's rear cut and waistline, while the extension of thigh-high stockings and high heels gives an effortlessly graceful posture. The version sitting on a black high stool feels more relaxed, with a slightly bent leg and low-angle lens language showcasing long legs and shoe details to perfection. Finally, the cross-legged angle sitting on a white fleece mat brings a close-up intimacy, clearly revealing arm tattoos, metal finger claws, and neckline details that interact powerfully with the model's gaze.
Although anime conventions inevitably bring bustling crowds and noisy background noise, entering character state instantly the moment the shutter clicks and filtering out chaotic surroundings is a thrilling photoshoot experience in itself. The essence of event photography often lies in capturing this vividness frozen amid a fluid environment, and the final photos accurately restore the confident yet cool aura I wanted to convey to the audience through this Yu Linglong cosplay look.
