Starting with the deep purple color scheme and plush stole of this Yu Linglong outfit, the indoor temperature at the convention venue wasn't really suitable for wearing such a thick outerwear piece, but for visual dimensionality and the character's distinct mysterious ambiance, I pushed through and powered through the entire shoot. The most painstaking aspect of the entire styling was the upper body's metal ring chain design and the pair of clawed gloves on the arms; they offer incredible texture, but also severely restricted my hand range of motion—I had to raise my hands with extreme care, terrified of knocking off any embellishments.
For the lower body, instead of traditional stockings or trousers, I opted for vine body paint directly applied to both legs. Applying these purple tattoo transfers required sitting in the dressing room for nearly an hour before shooting. Because the edges of temporary tattoos can easily peel, I kept the skin on my legs extra dry to guarantee the most natural and smooth outcome in the standing full-body shot of Photo 2. Paired with those clear platform high-heeled sandals and gold bells around the ankles, the entire lower body styling appears visually elegant and elongated.
Regarding the shooting setup, the location was a side hall of the convention venue where industrial metal pipes and dim, cool-toned lighting harmonized perfectly with the character's aloof disposition. The standing posture in Photo 2 was captured from a low angle, seamlessly dodging the cluttered flow of convention pedestrians in the background; the vertical composition combined with the plush stole and sharp claw gloves dramatically elongated her overall presence. Photos 1 and 3 were shot while resting on a high stool—yielding a relatively relaxed vibe where crossed legs beautifully showcased the leg paint patterns and footwear details, making it a classic and effective seated angle for convention photos.
For the close-up in Photo 4, I intentionally reached my hand toward the camera lens, combined with red eye makeup and subtle lip tone, aiming to create an interactive sense of capturing the player. To keep the intricate headpiece atop my hair completely stable, heavy hairspray was used at the roots and hairpins were clamped extra tight—even pulling enough to make my scalp ache. However, looking at the preview in the viewfinder made all those discomforts vanish.
Compared to studio shoots, the hardest challenge with Convention photos lies in controlling background clutter. We managed to avoid messy wiring rigs and passing pedestrians around us, keeping the shots as clean as possible. This outfit naturally carries rich layering—fur, bronze metal rings, black leather gloves, and semi-sheer paneled fabrics exhibit varying lusters under light reflections, placing high demands on venue lighting. Luckily, the photographer's cool-toned post-processing allowed the photos to retain the authentic vibe of the convention floor while infusing a subtle cyber-fantasy atmosphere.
Walking around the convention floor in this outfit certainly turned a lot of heads. But wearing thick fur on a hot day while maintaining an aloof, composure-filled facial expression was truly a test of endurance. The character concept of Yu Linglong inherently embodies a mysterious and languid essence, so during posing, I intentionally slowed down my movements, keeping my gaze slightly unfocused yet subtly calculating, drawing closer to her detached, unapproachable aura.
Personally, I am thrilled with the overall execution and this color palette—the weaving of black and deep purple endows the costume with oriental charm without appearing dated. Lastly, regarding footwear: platform soles with clear heels are a known struggle for many convention goers. Although they boost height and elongate leg proportions, prolonged standing puts intense pressure on the soles of your feet, which is why I sought out stools to sit on for most of these shots. For anyone looking to try this look, I strongly recommend bringing a pair of comfortable flats for walking around the convention floor.
