Staging this indoor studio set for La Pluma's Summer Flowers swimsuit took immense dedication from pre-production through the final shoot. Now, all raw proofs are delivered and the retouching is finally complete.
The wardrobe design offers wonderfully rich visual layering. Beneath, a white halter-neck bikini acts as the inner base, draped loosely with an oversized light-blue long-sleeved jacket worn off-the-shoulder to accentuate the neck and collarbone lines. The blue swim goggles paired with a yellow-and-green lanyard around the neck serve as quintessential visual anchors, while black crisscross straps around the ankles inject an athletic touch. The wig was trimmed into textured short layers, finished with white feather-shaped hair accessories pinned at the temples. To break up the simplicity of the swimwear, I also clipped a bright yellow blossom into the hair.
To recreate a sun-soaked summer beach vibe, we dressed an elaborate scene inside the studio. The backdrop featured surfboards—one in blue patterned with clovers and snowflakes, another in vibrant pink stenciled with lettering. The floor was laid with expansive silver reflective sheeting; to simulate shimmering water ripples, the photographer had to control key light angles with extreme precision to prevent blown-out ground reflections or harsh facial shadows. Surrounding props included a pink shopping cart overflowing with fresh flowers, a vintage golden gramophone, stacks of aged books, a rustic wooden crate filled with sunflowers, and even an English newspaper.
Throughout the shoot, I explored varied dynamic poses to harmonize with the set. In Photo 1, perched atop a blue-and-white inflatable swim ring holding a white instant camera, sustaining bent leg positions while framing through the viewfinder demanded significant core engagement. In Photo 3, seated sideways across the floor holding a dark bottle, the pose required naturally extending my leg silhouette while gently cradling the prop with a relaxed, languid gaze—dialing in this precise angle took plenty of torso and neck micro-adjustments. For Photos 2 and 4, sitting directly on the floor with chin resting on palms or handling a dark serving tray, the priority was projecting organic relaxation through bodily poise. Canonically, La Pluma carries a quiet, composed demeanor; within this bright Summer Flowers theme, I subtly softened my expressions to make her feel effortless, breezy, and casual, stepping away from her usual battlefield gravity.
From building the set and styling prop arrangements to gradually locking in movement and micro-expressions, this studio shoot was physically demanding, yet the dimensional depth of the final edits is stunning. Every prop interaction integrated seamlessly into the frame.
