This Black and red techwear style styling for Wishadel serves as the teaser for the CPSP convention photos in Hangzhou. The shoot was set indoors in the exhibition hall, where the highly reflective floor was perfect for capturing a cold, hard industrial texture. To match the character's aloof traits, the makeup emphasized red pupils and red eyeshadow, which, paired with the silver-white wig, showed great texture under backlighting. The costume features glossy black leather and black-and-red distressed cutouts, extensively incorporating straps and belt elements. PVC material produces noticeable reflections under lighting, which was also a challenge during the shoot, requiring precise angles to avoid blown-out glare.
The biggest challenge during shooting was capturing the dynamic motion of the props. The long sword in hand combined with long streamers met air resistance when swung; repeatedly attempting to flick the streamers into graceful arcs while balancing on one foot in a deep crouch took numerous takes. The photographer used a wide aperture to blur out the cluttered convention crowd in the background, making the foreground subject's silhouette pop. We tested several low-angle camera positions, mainly to visually elongate the legs and reinforce the overall commanding presence. Convention lighting is rather complex with harsh overhead glare, requiring reflectors to balance facial light ratios. For gear, a telephoto lens was primarily used to compress space effectively, making the subject appear more three-dimensional.
There are many intricate costume details: the red horns were custom-made with a matte finish. The fringes and distressed sections of the garment had internal shaping added to maintain a natural drape. Since the outfit is form-fitting, it flatters the body curves well, and paired with platform boots, the overall proportions turned out great. The convention environment was noisy and crowded, requiring patience to wait for opportune moments for clean shots. The two photographers had great vision for lighting and composition; their low-angle capture allowed the floor reflection to become an integral element. In post-processing, no excessive liquefying was done; we mainly adjusted the black-and-red tonal contrast to give the frame a colder, crisper aesthetic. The shoot was quite exhausting—controlling the center of gravity and range of motion left my legs weak afterward. But the moment the final photos came out, all the hard work preparing props and adjusting garments felt completely worthwhile. This stands as another way to faithfully recreate the 2D character, hoping these photos convey that distinctive cold, razor-sharp presence. The composition makes wonderful use of the floor reflections to extend the visual depth, perfectly aligning with Wishadel's lore as the cool gray background and red accents form a powerful visual contrast.
