Today I cosplayed Meimi Haneoka. This Saint Tail cosplay took about three weeks from makeup tests to studio shooting, and I just finished retouching this set to share with everyone.
First, about the costume: the texture of this burgundy velvet looks truly stunning under the lights, but during shooting we noticed it absorbs light quite heavily. To preserve the velvet's contours and color saturation, the photographer deliberately added a softbox in the front-side position, ensuring smooth light-to-dark gradations across the fabric. The massive bow on the chest is the visual centerpiece of the whole ensemble; to keep it plush and three-dimensional, I padded it with stiff crinoline mesh inside. Paired with the stand collar of the white shirt and a bell brooch accented with golden wings and a ruby, I was personally very pleased with the fidelity of the details. The burgundy arm warmers on my arms echo the bow on the headpiece, keeping the overall color scheme exceptionally cohesive.
As for the props, the magic wand in hand was the key highlight. A massive red multi-faceted gemstone tops a golden crown base, joined underneath by a pink four-pointed cross star ornament, making the physical prop feel quite substantial in hand. To keep the staff steady during shooting, my wrist and arm muscles were held in continuous tension. To capture the translucent clarity of the gem, the photographer spent considerable time adjusting the prop's reflection angles, hunting for a sweet spot that produced a brilliant gleam without blowing out the highlights.
For hair and makeup, the bright orange wig received layered trimming, where the blunt bangs and long sidelocks framed the face nicely. I chose bright blue contact lenses, and spent extra effort on the eye makeup—emphasizing black upper eyeliner with a soft pink-orange wash along the lower lids, paired with dense false eyelashes to give the eyes the animated sparkle of an anime heroine. To accentuate the character's lively vitality, blush was placed slightly higher on the cheekbones, complemented by a soft pink lip gloss. A dab of highlighter was applied to the cheeks, creating a natural, dewy radiance under the studio lights.
For the set, we built a backdrop featuring a dark red velvet curtain adorned with colorful bunting pennants, felt pom-poms, and golden stars. We even found a white rabbit prop in the studio; recalling that Meimi has a pet bunny, I spontaneously included it in the shots. Interacting with it brought a touch of everyday warmth to the photos, keeping them from feeling like rigid poses.
Regarding character portrayal, Meimi Haneoka is a figure with wonderful contrast. I experimented with different gazes before the lens to channel this dual identity: slightly lowering the eyelids with a faint, enigmatic smile lent an air of mystery; opening the eyes wide with a radiant smile captured her everyday energetic self. The entire shoot went smoothly, and this series underwent only fundamental color grading and skin retouching to preserve the rich, authentic texture of the original captures. I hope everyone enjoys this presentation.
