Bringing this JX3 Mid-Autumn Festival Jade Rabbit cosplay theme from early planning to finished frames took nearly a full month. From the initial costume design sketches, I wanted to weave in elements that embraced the holiday warmth while capturing the rabbit's spirited agility. After sifting through numerous laces and ruffles, I settled on textiles infused with subtle shimmer, which exhibited fantastic sheen under the lights. The headdress—blending bunny ears, plush pom-poms, and intricate ribbon bows—needed to feel regal without looking top-heavy, requiring multiple test-fittings and adjustments.
For makeup, I blended soft pink-red tones across the eye makeup to evoke the innocent, lively gaze of a little rabbit. The set was transformed into an ethereal Moon Palace complete with a massive illuminated moon prop, warm amber paper lanterns, golden floral branches, and wooden lattice screens, with reflective ground panels laid out to simulate glistening ripples across water. The overall lighting scheme relied heavily on warm golden tones, crafting that comforting, dreamy ambiance of a Mid-Autumn full moon night.
Shooting with live animals always tests patience, and the little bunnies were no exception. Highly energetic and naturally skittish, they refused to sit still at first. To capture tender, gentle moments cradling them, I spent extensive time crouched down soothing them, using carrots and greens to build familiarity step by step. Fortunately, the white rabbit eventually nestled into my arms with complete comfort, allowing us to capture genuinely soft, authentic moments.
Throughout the shoot, poses like lifting the lantern, twirling the butterfly wand, or hopping lightly on tiptoe involved constantly recalibrating the sweep of the skirt to freeze that weightless peak. Pairing White stockings with platform Mary Jane shoes demanded balance when walking, but elongated leg lines gorgeously before the lens. The framing aimed to balance feminine grace with festive splendor. Reviewing these photos brings back fond memories of the chaotic yet joyful set. I hope everyone enjoys this Mid-Autumn Jade Rabbit look.
